On the one hand, I'm psyched the people behind Little Witch Academia are making this. On the other, it carries the risk of being so stupidly over the top as to lose all meaning and impact. *points to Gurren Lagann*

The girl's shirt and neckerchief looks like an angry, mustachio'd face. I hope it is in fact sentient and a major character.

Female badasses. FEMALE BADASSES.

Yes, yes, YES! I need more female badasses. Both in my anime and in my life in general.

Please say the anime is about a woman. I'm tired of people fawning over male Gainax badasses. I need a legitimate anime with female badasses and a big plot. Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt was pretty good, but having something anything as epic as Gurren Lagann with women taking the initiative would blow me away.

This sounds like a smaller version of Battle Royale with a mostly female cast
Well, given it's the TTGL team it'll probably be much more interesting and exciting then the slog that was the battle royale manga with more memorable characters and likely much less disgusting. I'm being serious, can't remember a single damned name of anyone from BR given it bored me to absolute tears when it wasn't grossing me out.

As long as they make this actually fun (Yes, i realise the original BR wasn't SUPPOSED to be fun given it's content, but this is the TTGL team making this: It's going to be fun) and properly interesting i won't complain.

Fair enough but the general trope of "high schoolers killing each other" is overused in an industry that, in my opinion and i only speak for myself, is stagnating in terms of plots, characters, and themes. Some otaku would argue that the media has become too commercialized and less artistic and I would argue that it seems to be pandering to anime fans which is why there is a dearth of hug pillow covers and other fanservice stuff while they can charge 60 USD for what is only the first 6 episodes of a session, they only see us as bloody walking money venders instead of people with actual artistic needs.

As for Battle Royale, it was a bit revolutionary when it came out in Japan. It was a book in 1999 that sharply critiqued the government's attitude towards the youth population (otaku had not gained their soft power in the culture at this point) while also being extremely shocking in a culture revolving around modesty. It was basically a more violent version of The Hunger Games set in a culture that has a greater generational gap. I can understand your boredom with it but I would like to at least state the context of the area and time period it was published

The premise seems a bit meh but I'll be keeping an eye on this one anyway. I really like their artstyle so I'll be watching it if only for that.

why do people keep complaining about the setting?
the high school girls setting, yes is nothing new but keep in mind that's what this team is good with, do any of you really think TTGL had an original setting, characters, or design?

go look at Getter Dragon and tell me that isn't TTGL! Look at Getter Armageddon, people living underground while the surface looks like a giant desert, Ryoma donning a red scarf and acting like a crazy psycho... Kamina and the over world much?
really look at everything involving Getter Robo and you'll get the entire TTGL story, mechas!
As for the characters for Nia and Yoko google search Wild Arms 5 Rebecca/Avril look familiar? Not only that but also play the first couple of hours of that game Dean and Simon character wise are practically identical specially the way he meets Avril closely resembles how Simon meets Nia hell if you take Dean and dress him up in Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter Ryu's clothes you GET Simon! Even the Gurren head mecha is actually from a PSX tactical RPG, except he was pink there, and I could go on here for days telling you all the things TTGL took inspiration from but that's not the point of my post

my point being, sure the setting isn't super original but these guys excel at taking existing tropes and blowing them out of the water with awesomeness. So who cares if the high school girls theme is common, when was the last time an anime featuring that setting was good?! If you ask me Ikkitousen was the last good one and that came out in 2003!
