Buy it retail.
What a simple and sensible solution!
Probably a bit more expensive, but you can get it a heck of a lot sooner without having to try to persuade your mom to do anything but drive you to the mall.

There you go. Problem solved.
I CANT FIND A COPY I LIVE IN ENGLAND.
Really? I know it's a small section but GAME should have it in.

If not, beg your mum some more.

I have a problem, I really want to get TF2 on steam, but alas, I am 14 so I don't own a credit card. I asked my mum if she could let me use her card to buy it(because its at a low price right now) and she said 'maybe'. She implied that she doesnt trust steam even though I showed her a LOT of security policies that they have but still, no.

If anyone can help me out, please find some facts/statistics from major companies to help me persuade her.
Your Mom is wise. I understand you want to play the game, but understand that services like STEAM are at the forefront of the whole "digital distribution" thing, and your Mom is probably like a lot of people who don't want to pay real money without getting an actual product in return. STEAM goes out of business, or decides to shut down, and your left with nothing.
The issue is more security I'm guessing, seeing as he must have to pay her back for buying it. And Valve have a patch ready to remove the necessity for Steam (although TF2 will rely on their servers so I'd imagine it itself would not be playable if they're out of business).

I live in Devon and I've seen it, this is Devon we're talking about. If they have it in the South West I'm pretty sure they've got it in London.

There, done. Go in store and order it.
That's one pence more expensive than the Orange Box, sell the rest (Portal and Half Life) to a friend like many before me have mentioned, you could even make money.

I'm sure you can find something in here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_(software)
to quote and show your mum steam's legitimacy.

You can point out the fact that Steam is basically the largest online game retailer out there?

I'm not exactly sure where to find the stats to back that up (if its even true), but...

Well, maybe you could say something about how many people actually use Steam. Its a really big number last I checked. If Steam was in the business of scamming people, it probably would be very well-known to people, and especially so on this site. That could help a bit.

Look, I don't live in England, so I don't know how disastrously rare hardware copies of games have become in the Isles, but there is absolutely no reason nor justification for bashing people who are suggesting things to help you. If you don't want them to suggest those things, make a more specific OP with more information to work with. Just saying.

Anyway, back on track; if you can't find any copy anywhere, suggest and/or request one at a gamestore. If it's a popular/recent/still-being-produced game (which it is), it won't be a problem.

BTW I already have portal, Half-life 2, ep 1, ep 2, so thers no real point for me to buy the orange box, and I cant find it here anyway.
I got mine retail and I live in England. GAME is where I got it from.

Show her the fact that there are almost always 2,000,000+ satisfied customers on it at all times, and there has yet to be any fatal issues with privacy, and still many more who are not always on.
Thanks, Johnnyallstar, you managed to tip her over.
It's what I do best. Have fun with your TF2. I'll add this to my epic legend of being just awesome.

Won't work. The keys will be locked to the account. I already had TF2 then I got the orange box, both keys are now tied to my account. The orange box is 1 key for the 5 games.

That being said It is only a tiny bit more expensive then standalone TF2.

BJ777 said:
Well then you know what, looks like you ain't gonna be playing TF2 any time soon, and screaming about it on the internet? Yeah that never works.

OT: What about my steam account idea? Get your mate to set up a new steam account, buy tf2 using money you give him and then give you the username and password???

Use a pre paid card in the future, in england you can get what is know as a cv card, where you go on their website, type in the code (its a scratch card like the itunes cards) and then they give you a account number etc etc. Pre paid debit cards are good too, but ive actually used the cv card, so I know it works.

Besides which, consider that it's the end of October, Christmas is coming. up. All of the rambling above aside, you sound like a kid. Think about it, your parents are probably saving their money to get you stuff for Christmas, and the things you mention that you want now are probably going on their list of things to get you. I mean sure, you want the game now, but well... that's how it always is when your young (heck I'm an Adult and do that too at times wven when I know better... lol).
Yeah my dads friend did this with mario galaxy, he just told my friend to get him it for christmas

Not be be a downer here but TF2 is an M rated game here which probably makes it... *Google search* 16 or 18+ or whatever so I have to say don't buy it. *booing* Hey, I can't help if I'm lawful good!
Sober Thal said:
It's rated M for mature, isn't that 17 years old?

Try working around the house, get some money, then ask Mom to drive you to a store, if the store is sold out, ask them to order it. Just like the guy above me says, it usually works.
Actually, I managed to persuade her that I am smart enough not to absorb a games message as real. And I am.
But it worked!

Have you heard of a 3v card? send away for one, its like a credit card that works like a mobile phone top up. Theyre designed for teenagers and the like. They have them in Ireland so i'd assume theyd have them in the UK...

EDIT: its also completely free, you just give them your address and theyll post you one
