How big of a statue are we talking about here, incidentally? Five feet, ten feet, or like a colossus from Shadow of the Colossus? Because I could see any of the three being done. And he'd deserve any or all of them. He was a great man, and he'll be greatly missed.

Finally. A religion I can get behind! lol

It should be a statue of Gary ripping one of the Beholder's eye tentacles out..WITH HIS TEETH!!

OR

Just go very simple and understated. Have it be a statue of Gary with a dice bag tucked into his belt and a set of 1st edition in his hand.

OR

Snarky, snide and sarcastic. A statue of Gary. On a plaque underneath it says "YOUR WELCOME BLIZZARD!"

:)

I thought you said Giygas for a second. Dissapointment.
"You cannot grasp the awesomeness of Giygas's statue!"

I think that, in order to do Gygax the proper amount of justice, the statue must be at LEAST as big as the gundam in Japan.

I was thinking of a beholder that seems to miraculously float, perhaps when viewed from a certain angle.. along with laser beams in the eyestalks, lol

Woah. I am so for this.

May I suggest - a giant dragon, Gygax riding on his back, with a giant mace in one hand, and a two-hander in the other, with a huge shield on his back, casting spells and breaking Epic ruleset.

...What, he deserves nothing less.
Pretty much this and I'm not even a fan of this series.

I'll be disappointed if he isn't wielding at least a sword and shield on this statue.
No, he has to have a +1 Mace(I hope someone amongst this site of nerds gets this joke).

I don't want your stinky cookie, but it's a futurama reference.

and saying "I hope someone gets this reference" or "cookie to people who get the reference" is a really stupid forum action that reeks of desperation :p

You'd be surprised how often one makes a reference around here only to have everyone go "I don't get it".

I'd donate towards that. More like, "You're welcome, every RPG since the '70s!"

As long as Tolkien gets a statue saying "Your welcome, Gary."

Only if the Norse pantheon gets a massive gallery saying "Your welcome Entire collection of Fantasy Writers."

Also, Gygax's statue will be a Mind Flayer with over-sized glasses munching on the brains of a jock.

Odd... I was actually thinking the same thing.

But Tolkien's not the statue type. He'd appreciate a little plaque in his favourite corner of the Eagle and Child Pub in Oxford. Which he already has. (I have sat directly beneath it, in fact. I had a baked potato. It was delicious.)

Gygax Family Planning Memorial Statue for D&D Creator

The wife and children of the late Gary Gygax, one of the creators of legendary RPG Dungeons and Dragons, have plans underway to erect a memorial statue of Gygax in his home of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Gail Gygax, the widow of Dungeons and Dragons co-creator and RPG pioneer statue [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/81988-Gary-Gygax-Dies] of him in a park in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, the city the Gygax's called home.

The statue won't just be a marker of Gygax's life, however. Gygax sees it as a symbol of what her husband gave to the world with the games he created. "That is my mission, to get that (statue) as an appreciation for what he gave people throughout the world," Gygax said. "Through his games, these men and women developed lifelong relationships. His games taught them friendship and respect and teamwork. It was more than a game; it was life."

Gygax has hired a lawyer to help form a corporation to raise money for the statue. She has a number of fundraising initiatives already underway, including plans to auction off some of her husband's original manuscripts and other items. Games industry luminaries, Gygax says, have already expressed interest, as well as folks from the film industry.

So what will the statue look like? Gygax says not to worry about it. "It's something he wanted, and something his fans would want," she said. "It's going to be very tasteful."

We must make a sacrifice of the Molly Ringwald in honor of the great Gygax, to christen his statue into glory.
