My WoW account was hacked and banned for "disrupting server economy". I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and if you have how did it turn out?

I had something similar, but luckily I didn't get banned. The person who hacked it kept my character to farm ore and crap. I was able to regain control before he did too much damage. I got all of my stuff back, and about 1000 gold worth of stuff he had mined. So it ended up being a win for me.

It seems that you, my friend, has been a victim of a phishing attempt, I highly doubt it was a hacker.

Anyway, just send in a report to Blizz, and you will probably get hold of your accoutn again if they believe you.

Also, scan your computer for keyloggers and be careful where you leave your password. ;)

Never got my account compromised, but I've got a careful personality :p

If you don't have one, I'd suggest you get one of those Blizzard Authenticators, very difficult to get your account hacked with one of those.

I got hacked and had my entire PvE armor that was sellable sold. 1,5k gold missing from my bags and another 1k gold worth of ores missing. My bank which was full of gems was empty. This was only on my main, when I went on my banker I saw 2,5k gold gone and a bank full of herbs empty.

I scanned my computer for keyloggers and 2 of them were removed. Changed the password of everything I had an account on then petitioned a GM to give me everything back. 3 days later everything was back to normal.

WoW isn't worth two months of waiting for an email from blizz.
2 months? It took me 3 days with a petition ingame and took my friend 2 days for someone at Blizzard to answer his e-mail. Do we play the same game?

Edit: Oh crap double post, sorry.

No offense to anyone but it seems to me that kids who play death knights get hacked more often. Maybe its a personality trait of kids who roll death knights..

That's why I stay away from MMOs.
This has nothing to do with MMOs, and everything to do with the security practices of the user. Your user account info doesn't just magically appear in some hacker's hands. You have to give it to them, or run their code on your computer. Stay away from untrustworthy software - especially anything anyone advertises on MMO forums - and this problem doesn't exist.

Do you think it's mainly kids who roll DKs?

This is a good thing, believe it or not. Quitting WoW was the best thing I ever did for myself. Since then I've gotten a job, made friends, met a girl, shown my nuts to innocent bystanders, and lost weight.

Don't fret over your banned account. Go outside, but beware, the sun is bright and your skin may catch on fire, it's so pale.

No I just refer to everyone on an online game as kids. Even if I hear their voice over vent or on Xbox Live or something and they are clearly adult, I still call them kids.

Hacking implies intelligence of the perpetrator. Being keylogged implies the lack of intelligence of the victim.

My bet is on your being keylogged.

My brother got hacked once becuase he was being an idiot and bought some powerlvling to catch up with his friends who had also power leveled. They took his account and began playing on his main. Luckily I got a free trial account to check on them and added the toon he wanted to level. They didn't go on for a while so I added the others and saw that they were on his 80 pally. I told my brother and contacted Blizzard. They banned the account (Temporaily) Easy to say those gold farmers were pissed! They didn't do to much damage. Barly managed to grab any of the ore or leather in the bank and he still had all the gear. The only downside was that he went bat shit crazy on my brothers Guild Bank. They didn't get a chance to sell the stuff though.

The best part was that shortly after he got his account back they banned my brother's friend's for powerleving.
