Rig it up to remember the shapes it sees, then you could construct complete 3D models by imaging them from real life with the camera - there's no reason, say, why it couldn't remember what his face looks like from the front when he turns away, or if he turned the other way what the other side looked like.

Pretty sweet demonstration though, shows what the tech is capable of, and also what the limitations of the resolution are - notice how much the background was spiking? I'm guessing you'd need to average out all the noise from each individual point to make a smoother imagine, but you'd lose detail doing that...

I think he said in another video there would be an issue with trying to use three of them at once.

Someone might be able to get around it though. Considering the tech has only been publically available for about 10 days, we've seen some good stuff so far.

You know this has application faaar beyond video games.

Consider this.
Anyone here ever use video chat?

You'll notice one thing immediately.
NOBODY is ever looking directly at you in the eye.

Thats because they are more likely looking at the screen and not at the camera.

Put two of these together and you could actually simulate direct eye contact,
thus actually providing a use for video chat

Really is an amazing piece of technology. Makes me wish I has any idea how it worked. Someone teach me some advanced math.

Holy hell someone give this guy at least 2 more Kinects. And a job at Bioware.

Best. RPG. Ever.
Actually in one of his videos he says that 2 kinects wouldnt work BUT there may be some ways to work around it to create a full 3D enviorement

No, because each one of them sends infra-reds that are sent back to the Kinect, the problem is that having the 3 sending infra-reds would cause them to receive data from a diferent Kinect. It would be a total mess

THAT'S FREAKIN SWEET.
Look at that, all of that new shiny high tech stuff, and microsoft wastes its potential on Shovelware.

yeah that would be great, you turn around a few times and presto you have a fully rendered 3d image of yourself that moves at the same time you do.

As for that matter if it could remember where it is in relation to the room its in you could use it a bit like a scanner and have a 3d image of your entire room.

after that you could get it to recognize what the objects are in the room.

Finally it could then use the available space and objects in a room convert them to look like other objects of similar shape on screen and create a game around it tailored to your room.

edit: to go one step further you could then get your representation to wear different clothes so that you can for instance look like a space marine or pimp

3D TV with an annoying pair of glasses and an over-priced TV =/= a camera that can capture images in 3D. A GOOD camera that could capture 3D images could save massive ammounts of money in the videogame industry by cutting down on motion capture technology. Compare that to 3D TV's, which are just a pain in the ass... If you want to spark a fanboy war, atleast make the arguement with something comparable...
