"A character controlled by a hacker who used exploits to dominate online game Guild Wars 2 has been put to death in the virtual world."

So they just delete the character/ characters from the game, but does it really solve the problems associated with people using hacks in the game in the first place? Honestly I do not think just deleting the characters or the account is enough to really combat this issue. I don't think it deters or prevents them from doing it again just having an account deleted I think they should take more measures to help resolve the issue. DO you think That is enough to actually combat the problem of hacks or bots? What would you suggest?
I Think in the short term they should ban hard drives ( Not IP but use an actual HD detection tool and ban the hard drive itself) since they would have to buy another HD to play again which would put a barrier, although minor barrier since Hard drives are not very expensive, but at least it would be a barrier, and make them pile up hard drives in order to hack. In the Long term, in nations where they are legally able to do so, they should sue the users of hack/ bots, not just the creators in order to set an example. Actually being sued for that crap might actually make people reconsider doing it in the first place.
