Hacking/BOTTING on MMOs is morally superior over hacking FPS etc

The problem with MMOs is that they rely heavily on timesinks. Dedicated MMOers are very protective of their timesinks under the delusion they're adding to gameplay.

The difference between a bot in an FPS and a mining bot in Mega Susbscription World is enormous.
All a mining bot does is allow you to go off and live life instead of sitting in a chair for hours on end clicking thousands of times on little rocks - an activity that requires no skill when done manually.
If you can't see the difference between a hack which exploits recoil and aiming and one which simply allows you spend hours mining and have a life... well.

Aim bot taks away the main point of a FPS with botting you can go to one of the PVP parts of an MMO skipping the boring PVE.

One of the points of botting may be to play the fun, late game, parts.

It is also like having a robot do your job for you. Everyone will hate in you in envy.

I still fail to see how that's different. The pieces of crap that use aim bots are doing it because they don't want to spend their time actually learning how to beat people in the game. They're exactly the same as the people who don't want to spend their time leveling a character or farming up items or whatnot in an MMO. The only difference is that the Aimbot idiot will only be screwing over limited amounts of people at a time, whereas the MMO botter might be screwing over 1000's of people depending on what activity they're botting. Either way, the botter is a piece of crap ruining someone else's day.

Why even play a game if you are just going to have a program do everything for you?

FTFY, and I agree. If you want a game that will play itself, get the Sims.

I would rather be the employee with my co-workers using robots doing their work for them then the company owner who is competing with a company that is getting help from god.

But considering botting can ruin a server (10 bots camping a key quest area) it may be worse.

Edit: Aim bots are doing it to have an advantage, they don't do it to avoid 'learning' it is to kick ass. Besides, botting can only hurt PVE and PVP which is the funner part of a MMO...

Money = experience
working = grinding
someone else = bot. (It would be more appropriate to use a robot than someone else.

I can only relate that by saying "Is cheating in the MLB morally superior to cheating in the NHL?" and I believe both are cheating. In an MMO, when you bot it and cheat, you are cheating all the time and planning the legitimate player has put into the game. When you cheat in an FPS, you are cheating all the skill, practice and effort that the legitimate player has put in and is currently putting in. Just because they're different genres, I don't think you're treating one group of players any better than the other group. Both groups are annoyed with you taking shortcuts in their game.

To provide a point for the original post. FPS bots are very directly annoying to the few players who run into them. MMO bots are less directly problematic, but still matter.

MMO's are still worse because it is a greater impact over all and though it may not seem to affect you, it does.
If you just want to bot your way through an MMO, try Progress Quest. Not only is botting allowed, the game plays itself entirely. There is no justification to bot your way through an MMO.
If you just want to do PvP and think it's ok to bot to get to a high enough level to kill people, well those people are dying to you unfairly because you should be tens of levels lower than you actually are. Also, if you just want PvP you should really pick up a fighting game or FPS.

Then there is also the impact on the in game economy and resource availability. Bots can also be used by gold farmers to get lots of resources and gain money. Not only does this mess with the game's economy, making things far more or far less valuable than they should be, it also supports the gold farmers.

Either way, the person is a lazy prick. In the case of most mmos, all they are is a time suck anyway. Even when you get to the max level its a time suck so what's the point of botting or hacking? If you want to play an mmo, then you want a grind-ridden time suck. Cheating at it means you should just play something you actually want to play.

As for cheating at FPS' now you just suck and can't win another way even with all the cheap ways to kill people in modern online FPS'. If you suck so much that you can't use the grenade launcher in COD, then maybe you should just stick to single player games because it doesn't get any easier than, look, see guy, pull trigger.

"Botting" is the act of making a device to pretend to be you doing some menial task, sending this information down to the servers, where they change the numbers in said server appropriately. "Hacking" is the act of accessing the servers and changing the files manually. There is a huge difference there.

The art of coding is incredibly difficult, and requires great logical thinking abilities. In many cases, there is no "right" answer. Accomplishing a successful program, even a simple bot, is incredibly difficult, time consuming, and complex. If you succeed, then you have clearly demonstrated superior intellect, patience, and skill. The same is true of winning in an FPS.

So you're saying that experience in wow (not xp points, EXPERIENCE) is the same as experience in a job? I was pointing out the fact that wow is just a game, whereas a job is where you get your money, it's what people use to identify you and it's what you've trained your entire life for. Wow is just a game. And a bad one at that.

For starters I am not even talking about WoW. I don't even play it. In Guild Wars the gear you have means nothing and it is entirely skill based. If you can't use your 8 chosen skills(for that game) and prof well in a GvG match you can and probably will bring down your team.

In fact in Guild Wars when you make a PvP you are basically given max gear from the start. The only ting you have unlock are Runes and weapon mods. To be honest if have played PvE before that you probably have most of the mods and runes anyway or at least the important ones. How do you unlock these you ask? Just by playing PvP. There are even special areas where you can farm a certain amount everyday against computer characters.

I would love to see you make a bot that would even come close to the skills of a regular mid-low ranked GvGer or HAer.[footnote]GvG is Guild Versus Guild. It is a game where a total of 16 people(8 on each team) fight against each other in one of their guild halls. Who ever reduces the other teams DP to 60% or kills their Guild Lord wins.

You know there are other MMOs and COs than WoW?

After playing a few MMOs and FPS RTS games etc it has come to my attention that Hacking Botting on an MMO is less evil over hacking on a FPS game etc, But where do i get this theory from you may ask, The simple answer to this is if The game play of an MMO is so simple that even a program can emulate the actions needed to progress then why do we bother grinding on MMOs when we could i dont know do anything els even play a better game, but you must understand where im coming from,

If i asked you what is 998782346545645 + 346326345234234 sure you can do it in your head and its a simple question but wouldn't you rather use a calculator? thats the same with MMOs after you do everything once whats the point of doing it again? especially if this task in question is right click a Ore to mine it.

On the Flip side hacking FPS game or any competitive game in general is not very moral at all, You see if your facing off against a player in a game where number dont determine the out come using hacks like wall hack or aim bots if very cheap and overall ruins the game for others.

But you may ask but BOTTING on MMOs ruins the game for others also, Well lets think about this one, the effect of "ruined game" is not a direct blow to the person, sure maybe if he sees you botting he will say oh my look at me wasting my time while this guy gets everything faster without putting any work into it.

For this i have a simple answer Yes your right they are cheating and getting everything faster they are bypassing all the junk while you heroically kill that 9000th boar to gain that 80th level

but think about it are you having fun? if the action of playing an MMO is not fun then why are you playing it? or is it a greed factor found only in MMO players, You see if i cheated on COD and got all unlock from the start and own you in a match, tell me is it that i beat you because i cheated the game or rather did i beat you because the game is unbalanced and depends on numbers over effort of the player?

Well you can get twitchers for MMO's that make your spells auto cast to react against enemy spells in PvP. Thus ruining PvP. Also bots are used by gold farmers to sell who also use account hacking to fund their little business.

MMO's are not about 1 on 1 skill which a lot of FPS games are based on, usually in an FPS you face off against 1 opponent and then move to the next, a skillfull player can switch between targets quickly and take out several in one death, the combat in MMO is more about team fighting, a lot of the times your character does not have the equipment or set up to deal with every type of opponent which is why you bring your buddies to form a team that has strong symbiotic qualities. Although an FPS can have team work, everyone is capable of taking everyone out and a couple of hyper good players can win the game for a team.

If you got all the unlocks in CoD I would still pwn your arse with a pistol, you sound like a little nublet, then you would probably call me a hacker and disconnect to beat the shit out of your sister...side note.
