Thats a bit of a stretch, Gallic is probably a better term for Great Britain as a whole.

When the romans left there was only really a slight roman/gallic population left, followed by a short few hundred years of anglo/saxon (which indeed are germanic) then followed by a norman (french) invasion and migration.

Coupled with the fact Britain is just a mixing pot of cultures since mass immigration.

I live in a saxon named town though :p

I was reading a previous article about joining either the Stormcloaks or Imperials in the civil war of Skyrim. One of the arguments I heard was comparing Ulfric to Hitler and the Nazi party,... As a man from a German family I was offended by this kind of accusation

1. Hitler killed and executed tens of thousands of his own people who spoke up against the his party, Ulfric to my knowledge killed no one but the High King, and then only challenging him to a duel. Later in the game you fight the General of Imperials along his side and even then he wants to allow them to walk away or defend themselves.

2. IMPERIALS are the ones exeecuting civilians on the behalf of the Elves!!!?? THEY ARE KILLING THE FAMILIES OF THEIR OWN FU**ING SOLDIERS BECAUSE ONE OF THEIR GODS OFFENDS THE ELVES WHO THEY MADE THE NORDS FIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE!

3. The Imperials allow Thalmor agents into their cities routing out Talos worshippers...Hmm gee secret service agents killing people for their faith? Where have I heard this one?...Catholic pagan persecutions(sorry I'm a Odin worshipper :) )? Gestapo and political enemies and Jews? hmmm

4. Ulfric hates Elves... this makes him a rascist bigot?... They were in a violent war with the High Elves for years, hell U.S. people called Japanese people horribe things during war, it happens and helps to be little a people you are fighting, plus they are responsible for said executions and persecution. Second of all he invited and allowed landless Dark Elves into his city while not trusting them. They live in a crappier part of the city but at least he did not let them die outside the walls. and why trust Elves who worship a Daedric god of murder and deceit. At least he gave them a home...They hating High Elves probably helped.

5. Is he after the crown for himself? Yes, he wants power. Will he be better for the PEOPLE of Skyrim? Far better. Like the real Roman Empire, Cyodill is a dead nation squeezing its occupied lands to stay afloat. Like in Dragon Age, the kind King of the Dwarves was a worse choice for his people while the selfish Dwarven King actually improved the lives of his people.
That article wasn't about Ulfric BEING Hitler, but he was pointing out the similarities in how Hitler rose to power and ultimately used said power. Yes, there's no mass genocide in Skryim because for fuck's sake that would be taking it too far but Ulfric really does mimic Hitler in a multitude of ways. And he is a racist, his common cry is, "Skryim is for the Nords!" The only reason he isn't going around killing other races is because a. he needs them and b. he would get his shit wrecked if he even thought of attacking an Orc stronghold.

Raj does not care either way.
Leadership is something silly.
Ulfric rules? Raj eats moon sugar and pokes Wife Mjoll with dead skeever foot. ((She has fear of skeever so is fun!))

Empire rules? Raj eats moon sugar and runs from Wife Mjoll because shes angry about dead skeever foot under her pillow.

Not much different. And in end, Mjoll is angry, Alduin is still threat, and Raj will be hero for killing it. Alduin that is.

But Ulfric is a butt! He acts like Thalmor, high and mighty. Like everything should be under his boot.

Is like making deal with devil.
Putting Skyrim in hands of mad man like giving Raj fireball.

But putting Skyrim in hands of Empire of madmen is like giving Raj ice spikes.

Nobody wins. Not even Raj. And Mjoll will be angry either way!

it is a decision between Vichy France (imperials) and the BNP (ulfric)
one group is making the best of a bad situation and trying to live under an occupying force(elves) and a group who hate the goverment but blame it on immigrants

as an argonian, i joined the companions and then the brotherhood,

I didn't know too much about the normans so I googled/wikid them. Interestingly they seem to have decended from Viking conquerors (germanic), Frankish (germanic) and Gallo-Romans (roman/gallic). That combined with even more influence from "Real vikings" later on makes it fair (in my eyes at least) to call the British Germanic.

Though the Welsh and Irish seem to have retained more of their Keltic/Gallic roots.

Here's a link to the wiki I used http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normans

1. Techically every Nord and Imperial that died in the civil war is Ulfric's doing. If not for him, many lives would have been spared. He's not on Hitler-level though, no.

2. The Empire doesn't have much of a choice in the matter. The Altmeri Dominion won the war against the Empire, basically. Besides, the Altmeri Dominion's ultimate goal is to retake all of Tamriel. They'll use any excuse to make a land grab, so yes. The Empire has to execute the followers of Talos. If they didn't, then practically everyone would be killed/enslaved by the Thalmor.

3. See above.

4. Ulfric and most Nords are racist bigots, yes. It isn't just the Altmer, they're racist against every non-Nord race. That includes non-elves.

5. If by 'far better' you mean that it'll allow the Thalmor to take over Skyrim and slaughter/enslave all of it's inhabitants, then yes, it will be 'far better'. Ulfric is just a puppet being manipulated by the Thalmor, but he's too thick to see it.
1. Torygg started all of this by being a simpleton and a whore for imperial gold He wasn't even that good of a king in the first place.

2/3. The Empire is weak and corrupt and is doing their enemies bidding by being impotent cowards, like the Emperor Titanus Dickweed.

4. Everyone is a bigot in a medieval fantasy setting. So stop demonizing them for wanting to have their won country. And the Stormcloaks are fighting for an Imperium free Skyrim, not the genocide of non-nords.

5. If you read the Dossier, they can't control Ulfric because he's too unpredictable and hates them. And Hammerfell has held back and given the Thalmor a right clobbering so Skyrim benefits nothing from the Empires "Protection". The Empire needs Skyrim, because they need a meatshield. Skyrim does NOT need the Empire. The Empire is nothing but a carcass thats to stupid to realise its dead.
1. This does not alleviate Ulfric's agency in Torygg's death and starting the war. Though Ulfric says he'd retire from the world and all that, it's bullshit. He want's power, and the only way he can get it is by pissing off the majority of Skyrim and the world. Most people were okay just ignoring the Thalmor and worshiping Talos privately. Then Ulfric pissed all over that by killing the high king and giving the Thalmor justification to route out all Talos worship, although no one seems to care about all those shrines or if you wear a Talos amulet. Point is, the religious freedom of the Nords, while taken legally by the White Gold Concordance, only took practical affect thanks to Ulfric.

2/3. Ulfric created the problem he uses to rally support, so whose corrupt. The Stormcloaks have a simplistic understanding of events. Even so they should understand that if the Empire, which encompasses Skyrim and five other nations, cannot win against the altmeri dominion, Skyrim on its own isn't going to last a month. (the balance of power is essentially: Stormcloaks<Empire<Thalmor<Dragonborn<the programming that wont let me kill all those plot armored bastards.)

4. Nords: "Skyrim belongs to the Nords." definite racism and possibly hostile towards other races. Dark Elves: "You dare fight a Dunmer?!" Seems a bit racist from the implied superiority, but doesn't contain that killem all mentality. Other races: I don't remember any of the other races saying something even remotely racist. I figure the orcs might, but I doubt Beastfolk are gonna start shit.

5. Who the hell reads? Anyway, Redguards are awesome and can cut atoms in half with their swords, so naturally they'd kick ass. What are Nords gonna do, stand in the snow and not freeze to death? If you want a real Nordic threat, put a Draugr on the throne. They're unpredictable, have Thu'um, and the Draugr population easily dwarfs all other denominations (with the possible exception of Falmer, but they'd just enslave everyone.)

Bah! I am an Argonian and you people are already crude enough to them! No, but seriously if there are political threads about Skyrim then I hate to use this overused saying but...

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Sir, I have never had a desire to play a Khajiit before. Your post has changed that. I'm on a forum where people tend to write "character journals" (journal-based After-Action Reports); I am now seriously considering doing a Khajiit variation of that. :3

I may very well forget about this by the time I actually feel like doing a proper RP like that, as this would be after my initial Breton character, or perhaps simply adapt it into a similar-behaving Argonian... regardless, kudos for making a Khajiit character seem so enjoyable.

I didn't quite realize how bad the stormcloaks can be until after I joined them. I think after I finish their quest, I might just Unrelenting Force shout Ulfric to the ground and chop him to bits. Show him what it feels like.

Ulfric seems to hate everyone who isn't a Nord. Kinda got that feeling when the Stormcloaks constantly spouted about how much they loved his plan to boot every other race out of Skyrim, since Nords are apparently the master race.

Don't believe it? Go to Windhelm, the cfity he watches over, and talk to anybody of a race other than Nord. He literally has them living in the gutters and filthy slums and only pays them 1/10th the pay of "proper Nord workers," because they're only "worth" that much.

Torygg and Elisif still worshiped Talos, though they did it secretly. There's a little side-quest you get from Elisif where you bring Torygg's Horn to a Shrine of Talos, since she couldn't openly do it during his burial ceremony. She also mentions that Torygg respected Ulfric and his beliefs. And that he would've probably denounced the Empire and made Skyrim independant if Ulfric asked him to.

But then there's the Thalmor dossiers pointing out how beneficial it is for them to have Ulfric fight the Empire. Since they don't care about either side, as long as both sides are weakened. Ulfric only cares about Ulfric. He wants the throne for himself, not for his people. He's got a few good points, but it would be better in the long run to stick with the Empire. And maybe one day they'd all be strong enough to defeat the Aldmeri Dominion together. Then they could just make Talos worship legal again.
The Empire simply wants competant meat shields like the real Roman Empire did to our barbarian ancestors centuries ago.

Thats where you are wrong. Its not Ulfric that paying them. Its the bosses and they believe they don't deserve that. Talk to one of the dock workers of the Arogians. You can then go talk to the dock boss and tell him to pay them full payment, which he will. Problem solve.

I just like Stormcloaks better, even though the empire would be better in the long run.
Still, the Empire is dying, without a Dragonborn emperor and without their god Talos, they've become little more than a shadow of their former selves, If the Empire stays the way it is, the Thalmor will eventually assimilate it, its a guarantee.

Ulfric didnt break any laws by killing Torygg, its clearly stated multiple times that, using an old tradition, Ulfric challenged Torygg to single combat and won the right to become High King.
It does show just how much the Empire has destroyed Nord culture. Ulfrics completely right in wanting his peoples traditions and culture to remain intact, sure he's power hungry, but he's charismatic, and clearly a capable warrior and commander, something that the people of Skyrim need to stand up to the Thalmor. No I dont agree with his racism, but if Skyrim is going to remain Skyrim, he's its best chance

It was an honorable duel, like those fist fights you have... But he used Thu'um on the king, no one SAYS it, but that sounds a bit dishonorable right there, the King cant shout, and so few people know about shouting in the first place, i imagine it was a surprise to everyone there. He shout stunned him and stabbed him, might as well use poison. I gotta disagree with the Horse thing though... Wherever your going, their will be ingredients to harvest and monsters to fight, you'll get someplace faster while harvesting if your not hopping on and off your horse EVERY 15 SECONDS.

in Oblivion I was an imperial who saved tamriel, cyrodil and the empire, controled all the guilds. in Skyrim I am an imperial and that mans greatgreat... however many greats grandson destined to do the same in skyrim. Skyrim is a sequal to oblivion and i am making my character a sequal to the one in Oblivion. though i didnt name him "Stupid" like in oblivion but "Dumbfuck". ^^^This times a billion. I can not understand why people hate the Stormcloaks and love the Empire. Honestly, the Empire reminds of every a**hole European nation that thought it was a good idea to become imperialist *cough* England, Spain, France, ect. *cough*.

Eh, not so much roleplay as being a character. I almost never have anything important to contribute to Skyrim threads other then, "im indifferent" or, "i slightly think this".

Talking as Raj just gives me a way to post something other then 1 line of text. xD

What was that last bit about? And how is shouting dishonourable? The ability to shout is considered a great honour, worthy of respect by most Nords, Ulfric was simply the more capable warrior

The horse thing, i found myself getting on and off the horse constantly to farm ingredients or fight a monster, or just using the wagon carriage to get somewhere fast, never have owned a horse on 150 hours of play lol. Great honor ? Anyone can learn how to shout through with training, kind of like magic, which nords disdain with their ignorance. It was a concealed weapon, it wasnt a fair fight, a fight the king didnt have to accept because he had nothing to gain and everything to lose, and he was still young too. Theres no way you can call that fight honorable, he just wanted to show off his power.

Also, where was this honorable warrior in the siege of Windhelm? On his throne, not out with the troops, protecting the city ! That sounds like a bad tradition, reminds me of the Frost Giants tradition to becoming Jarl in Mask of the Betrayer (hilarity)
