Right. This is where I sound a bit shallow, but hear me out here.
I firmly believe that you can tell someones personality just by looking at their hair. It's something I've done quite conscienciously since I first joined secondary school, that's an age of 12 when people start to sort of express themselves. It's hard to come up with these when you haven't got a person in front of you, it's what you'd call a reflex I suppose. I'll give it a shot though. It's also a lot easier to do this with girls but it's also easy to be very insulting if you go down that road. I don't want to start accidentally calling people whores or whatever. I probably will on purpose though.

Let's start at secondary school then. Back then I was a bit of a mixed bag. I was very academic but I also played a lot of sport so I was friendly with the more popular people as well as the smarter bunch. But the first time you walk into your tutor group, you don't know anyone by personality so you want to start safe. You'll sit next to someone with short, clean hair. Kind of messy but well maintained. The kind of person you'd feel at ease around. You're picking a football team? Pick someone with longish hair, not particularly styled though. The ones with styled hair would typically be total arses. You get the general idea.

But I've taken this idea I had ages and I've run with it throughout my teen years. Dating is an interesting one. You want to date someone who takes care in their appearance, but isn't vain. You can see all this in how they treat their hair and how they style it. Girls with dyed hair are almost always more outgoing, as are girls with over-styled hair. Over-styled in my opinion, obviously. This is going to sound silly, but I'd say I've had 3 proper relationships right (ie courtship)? Two of them had hair like I said and those relationships went well. The other one had nits. I found this out after 2 weeks and it was like... if she didn't respect herself to stop insects growing in her hair, then how can I expect her respect me. It transpired that she had lied a lot in the time I'd known her, and I ended it. Does that make me a bad person?

I don't know. Saying it makes it sound like I'm a shallow person. I'm really not, it's just the way I weigh up people on first glance. I still get to know people, but my initials thoughts of "I don't think I'll get along with him/her" are almost always right. I've been doing this for like 10 years or so... does anyone else do this or am I a collosal barsteward?

Sounds like your just judging personallity by something slightly different than the average joe. Nothing wrong with it if you still give them a chance to amaze you.

Maybe. Maybe not.

I have long hair, but I'm not a typical stoner metal head, but it works with some people.

You use hair, I use footwear. I find that the shoes or boots a person wears tells me a lot of information about that person.

I have long-ish hair. I don't really take proper care of my appearance, and look like I dress myself in the dark.
What kind of person am I?

I don't think your theory is correct. For example, my sister has dyed hair and she spends about an hour every morning doing her hair but she's one of the most shy people I know. I also have short-medium length messy hair but I'm a complete unapproachable asshole.

It's good for a first impression (i.e. high and tight=somewhat military) but like every rule, it has its exceptions.

For the most part I use clothes, hair and the rest of it factors in later.

If they are in really baggy hoodies with artsy designs from a brand name store? Probably a total douchebag. Sometimes this is wrong, but I can only think of maybe 2 people who can say they aren't truthfully who wear stuff like this.

If your jeans are worn at your knees, then you are definitely one.

But ya, all of that is just how you've decided to profile people, everyone is going to have their own way of gauging people. Completely normal.

I suppose you could try to use hair to get a feel for a person's personality, but I wouldn't solely go with it.

I've got long, uncut, curly, (well-washed) hair which drapes over my shoulders.
I think it's obvious that with this pretty unique appearance (in this day and age) I would disagree with your statement.

I could shave all of my hair off and I'd still be the same person, I could get chemo and you'd never be able to tell what my personallity is, is that what you're saying?

Funny, I started reading this thinking "is this guy fucking crazy?" but then as you started linking a few example hairtypes to personality types, I started to realize that each of those correlations are there with people I know, I just never realized it.

As long as you give people a chance to prove themselves different then your expectations, this is as good a preemptive gauge as any, probably better.

EDIT:

My hair is shiny white, curly, goes to my ankles, and attracts small birds. What type of personality am I?

Well at my school they've got a limit on your hairs length so I come up a bit short in the hair reading department.

Though you've definitely got a point, the kind of hair people have is like the kind of clothes and possesions people have, it expresses who they are. For me I've got normal brown hair which I really don't like keeping super neat and combed. So what can you tell from that?

EDIT: But what if somebody's bald?

Never judge a book by its cover.

I get where you're coming from OP, though I don't really agree.

You see, most of those examples that you've given I've seen proven wrong, they're empirically false. However, I agree with the sentiment behind what you're saying; you can make judgements about people based on what they look like. Not very good judgements, I wouldn't trust them, but you can draw a conclusion at the very least.

The reason I say that you can never be sure that your judgement is correct is because someone might have a certain hair style for a number of different reasons; the girl you mentioned could of just had nits because her family was too poor to do anything about it, not because she was just lazy. A book might have a red cover because its a Christmas carol or a horror story. You see what I mean?

Well, I don't really give a shit about my hair. I keep it short, clean and spend about 2 minutes a day on it (in the shower). I guess that kind of fits my personality, clean, but not OCD or some asshole prettyboy.
