It seems that many of those in the topic: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.279908-Portal-2-Probably-Valves-Single-Player-Swan-Song?page=1

Have been saying how they hope this doesn't effect the Single-player games of Half-Life claiming it had no Multiplayer...

Well it did, and so did Half-Life 2...

Also what they probably meant they will have no Single-player only games.

You've misread the article. It says, clearly, that:
"Portal 2 will probably be Valve's last game with an isolated single-player experience."
And the Half Life games all had that next to multiplayer modes. That means, if you ask me, that they're wanting some kind of jump-in-jump-out system where friends can join your singleplayer campaign at any time.

For example, your friend can take control of Alyx at any time. Doesn't sound too shabby if you ask me, but I don't want that perfectly executed feeling of desolation and decay gone either. As long as you can turn that off I'm cool with it.

There were made independently of the actual Half-Life games, so it's not the same thing at all.
