I went to a summer camp about HL2 modding last summer, so I downloaded steam and became hooked on the game. I loved it. Soon after, I bought the Orange Box and loved that too. After finishing Episode 2, I was psyched to see how far along episode 3 was. I searched the internet and, as you can probably guess, found next to nothing concrete about the game. I was puzzled. The game was released in '07 and they still hadn't made any progress as of summer '08? The point of this story is that I love Valve and Steam, but the wait time between episode 2 and 3 is ridiculous. What do you think about the way that Valve has handled the episodes?

One of the reasons the games have been so good is that they don't rush them.

I think they are handling it just fine.

Valve sux at updating games.

Take TF2 as an example, it's been out for almost 1 and 1/2 year and three weaponpacks, THREE weaponpacks has been released.

FYI
Each containing three weapons for one specific class, as of date it's pyro, medic and heavy.

I can't imagine it'd take 6 month of programming to develop three new weapons.
Srsly valve, you can't just sit in your chairs drinking coke and watch youtube all day, WORK!

I hope you're being ironic.

Episode 3 will be out when it's ready, that's about the only thing you can guarantee with Valve.

Well say what you want when it comes to Valve they probably don't want a rep as a shitty game company since they have a rep as a "gets shit done" company atm which Rules

Valve takes way too long to make a new installment of a game. Sure the game will be great but it takes way too long until we can experience it.

I only have two things to say.

1.Its Valve. They're second only to 3D realms in the "taking for fucking ever" contest.

2.You went to a summer camp for GarryMod!?!

That's a hell of a track record when you compare to other companies who just dump the game after its released and forget about it. I'll use Cod4 as an example; they made it, released a three-map pack (1 of which was straight from campaign, another of which was a map from the original, just thematically changed), and that's it.

EDIT:

You can't have one without the other. It takes a long time because they polish it to a mirror shine, which also happens to make it great.

Every one, please stop whining. Would you prefer a new, mediocre game every year, or a new, great game every 2-3 years?

What? They have courses on how to mod? - you could have spent half and hour on the internet and found the same infomation.

As long as they don't disappoint, I can wait.

Personally, I'm fearing they won't properly explain the g-man. I'll be pissed if they pull a stunt like that.
I personally don't want them to explain G-man. He'd loose all his...presence I suppose if they did.

Anyway, Valve still have no idea whats going to happen in episode 3. The twisted story line of Half-Life so far will tell you as much.

Well Episode 2 was way better than Episode 1 and thats because they had more time to work on it. Im happy with how long it takes to develop each episode, just makes me happy knowing they are giving it their all to make a great game.

The problem is, 2-3 years is very, very optimistic

I have a feeling the third episode will be just as long as the original half life two, full of them revalations that we be hoping for, What'd be sweet is (Although the odds are stacked against this 99.9 percent) The G-man is Freeman from the future, that's always my theory.

I know and I respect that but I do want to know how the story in the next game begins before I forget how the last game ended.

Not really, I'm thinking that 2010 is realistic, and that would be 3 years. At any rate, I can't see it coming out later than 2011.

Saying its bad that one of the maps is from the campaign is not a valid point, as every shipped map in the game is based of a campaign level

Valve have already denied that theory and i heard somewhere that they have no idea about G-man and what to do with him. though i don't believe the second part.
