The fact that it said "G. M. & C." (as in "G-Man and something") on the awning made me think it had some legitimacy, but I guess not. Ahh well.

Realistic, but then again, anyone can get a copy of 3DS Max and learn it to a good extent for free, if they know what they are doing.

Being what seems to be the unofficial 3D computer graphics expert of this site, I have to say that very well could be as you say it is.
Also, a game that gorgeous to be rendered real-time would need a inhumanly powerful computer.
But
Valve has never stated that they would make a Half-Life 3. They said they would split a third into three episodes and then kill the franchise.

Also, the crowbar disproportionately covers the screen, obscuring where a target would be, and it's unlike Valve to make weapons impractical.

EDIT:
Oh, somebody proved me silly.

sigh

They never said anything about killing the franchise - though they did say that they might work on something else for a while. Episode 3 will probably come out in 2009. Half Life 3 (or whatever is next in the series) might not be out for years.

I remember reading somewhere that they were going to release episode 3 and then get feedback from the community on whether it prefers episodic content or monolithic releases and go from there.

How did you find that? Some other website? Weren't those pictures from inside some tunnel actually real photographs last time?
It means somebody used Photoshop, and that the original link's a cut-and-paste fabrication. Plus...
I don't like wasting my time scrutinizing the image to it's death, but-

1) Look how polished it is. I've seen early game photos of other games, and it looks like I'm looking at the picture through a stained pane of glass. Why would the picture be so polished at this stage, if, as the caption suggests, it would be coming out in 2010?

2)Look at the Lambda signal and the word 'Half-Life.' In the word 'Half-Life 3,' the three is unusually far away from the word Half-Life. And went and searched for some Half-Life 2 pictures and did a comparison. Call me nitpicky, but this is the first thing that popped into my mind.

whether or not it's real, i hope that the crowbar will be more like the wrench in bioshock.
the first time i used it in HL2 it reminded me of an old lady hitting someone with a walking stick.
