I just figured that after the at black mesa the Dr.Breen used the portal technology to bring the combine into existence and take over the world. there's a whole game that has Barney Chalhoun as the main character and I just figured that the scientist he escapes with are Dr.Kleiner, Eli Vance and a couple other random scientists. Besides why do the characters talk about Black Mesa and how the Gman saved Alyx Vance from Black Mesa in HL2 EP2. and tell me the Gordon Freeman/Solid Snake/Master Chief u came up with.
Well, from what I can tell Alyx Vance was allegedly just a young child at the time of the Black Mesa incident (maybe living in one of the residential areas like Gordon Freeman) - Gordon Freeman must have been put in some sort of stasis between HL1 and HL2 for them to end up around the same age as each other.

As for the Gordon Freeman/Master Chief/Solid Snake Theory. Bear in mind this was devised in the pub after a few drinks, and before MGS4 had been released. :p The theory was that at the end of MGS4, Solid Snake comes across a distinctive suit of mainly green armour. He dons this armour and, taking the name Master Chief, proceeds to battle the Covenant for the next three games. After that, he removes Master Chief's helmet to discover he has become a promising young scientist with impressive facial hair called Gordon Freeman. He uses the new found knowledge to build a large research facility in the desert and names it Black Mesa.

You may also be able to work Fable 2 in there somewhere, because according to that game, Master Chief also made an appearance in Albion at one point in time....

FREAKING AWESOME! and after the black mesa incident he decides to go to the gym to bulk up, smokes 120 cigarettes a day making his voice huskier, he washes his suit of armour on the wrong setting hereby losing its colour, straps a chainsaw to his gun and goes off killing locusts.

I played HL:2 before playing HL:1 and after a little research, it made sense. The first game isn't vital, but it certainly helps understanding the Black Mesa jargon.

I played half life one and two and u don't need to play half life one too understand 2 because none of the characters are introduced in 1 and it never explains how the world becomes a post apocalyptic socialist community after the black mesa .
Yeah, the Combine aren't Socialist.

Well, I played #2 first and understood most of what was going on.

It's up to you, but Half-Life is worth checking out. For a game that's 10 years old, it still looks and plays fantastic. To put it in context, it's kind of like seeing the Godfather II without seeing the first: It doesn't ruin the experience but why would you deny yourself something great? In any event, hope you enjoy the Half-Life universe.

never trust anyone who says they are socialist, my uncle is a socialist and he's the biggest racist tyrant I know of.

Wrong, the Nazis weren't socialist, they just called themselves that because it has a good connotation in Europe, they were actually Fascist. Same thing with the USSR, they called themselves Socialist, but they weren't.

Just out of curiosity, where did you find out that Freeman was in his 40's? I always under the impression that at the time of the original HL, Freeman was 27 years old and, due to being held in limbo until HL2, didn't age much if at all in the interim.

You can play 2 without playing the original, I did the same thing but didn't really understand most of the story. Once I'd played the first then it made much more sense to me.

Gordon is supposed to be 27, he's not 40!.

They were socialists, emphasis on were, grand plans were to become fascist... you dont strengthen your economy in 4 years by clearing a country of workers.

I just put it together since Gordon is 27 in the original Half Life and Alyx was probably a child in the original Half Life it has to be at least a 15 year gap between Half Life and Half life 2 which would put Gordon in his 40's and Alyx in her late teens too twenties. but this is just a guess from information from a Half Life fan site.

i did the same thing as you, i player HL2 before playing the first one, there are only some vague references to the first one regarding the "black mesa incident" and that G'man took alyx out because he needed to use her. also you dopnt find out to much about Gman in the first HL anyway, i played all of them now and i still dont know what he is or how he does it, though you can get on wikipedia to find out more about his charcter.
