Ok, here's the deal. Every year at about this time, I start getting my Halloween costume ready, and I get a little obsesive about making it epic. This year, some friends and i are going as pirates.
So, my brain is going into overdrive, because what I want to do is take a character from somewhere, and translate/skew their signature style or outfit into a true pirate outfit. So here's where you come in, my dear Escapists. Do you have any ideas on a character I could base my costume on, and do you have any ideas on what a signature item of clothing or accessory should be for said character? Anybody from any genre or medium is acceptable, I just want this to be awesome.

That most obvious idea would be to do Jack Sparrow, and you could do some crazy thing with his hat. God knows what though.

Do one on the Doctor (10th one, I believe? Y'know, David Tennant). Or Alex Mercer, minus ripping people's guts out?

Dress up as both Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, at the same time. Or, you know, get a daft friend to dress up as the other punk.

Alternatively, go as Nietzsche.

Go with Frank from Donnie Darko. Scariest and coolest bunny in the history of the universe. He also looks totally sweet

I wanted this one but it's difficult

You need

One you sized poster board

Take a screenshot of a youtube vid.

Then edit the name to say "An incriminating video of you/your mom"

Then print it on the massive poster board

And have your head go where the youtube player would go.

Mal, from Firefly. Although, I'm not really sure how you could translate his style, since it was mostly how he acted that makes him stick out in my mind.

Tight pants, maybe?

Or go as another Nathan Fillion character: Captain Hammer.

Heck, any character from Dr Horrible would get you geek cred.

That could get him in trouble though. The reason is these *pause and hold up hands* aren't the hammer.

That crossed my mind, but noone wants to see me as Cap'n tightpants. But I could have some fun with the red shirt/browncoat style.

Wouldn't be too hard to do. Get a leather jacket or a suit, gloves, a motorcycle helmet, and maybe a few glowsticks for this effect:

Putting LED signage in the helmet would score you bonus points.

Anyway, thrift stores are your friends.

Edit: Found a guide. http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/23/your-daft-punk-homework-create-your-own-el-suit/

Ah, but you see, I'm planning on taking these suggestions and turning it into a pirate-themed costume. I'm just thinking of the possibilities to mess with people's heads when they see a crew of pirates walking down the street and two of them have the Daft Punk helmets and whatnot, with the pirate outfit. Teeheehhee!!

You should go as Weegee and just stand around looking at people.

I'm actually thinking of going an Brawndo and telling everyone about myself.
