Do you have any favorite custom modes to play on Halo 3? I just started playing custom modes and the ones I've seen are kind of weird but fun.

Whack-A-Mole gives one player invincibility, unlimited grenades (except incendiary) and a gravity hammer, and the rest are given Mongooses (geese?) to drive around. But the level is arranged so that the driving players' heads and shoulders can only be seen through the floor (basically using clipping as a main function of the level). The on-foot player tries to hit them with the hammer or stick them with grenades, as nothing short of a stick or a direct lunge with the hammer will kill them. If a driver gets capsized, he appears with the hammer player, and it is courtesy to let him back on the Mongoose (drivers walk at very slow speeds).

Trash Compactor is an Infection mode based on that Red vs. Blue video where the characters are throwing soccer balls at each other. One player spawns on top with a gravity hammer while the rest have assault rifles. The hammer player has to whack objects and send them into the grav lifts, which propel them at deadly speeds towards the other players. Once a player dies, he respawns with a hammer and can help the other guy out.

Finally, the last one I played is kind of disturbing. One player spawns with invulnerability, slightly reduced jump distance, and a sword, but in a corner behind a stack of cable spools. The other players have pistols and normal jump distance, and spawn inside a "mansion" of sorts. After ten seconds, the sword player gets a grav lift spawned under him and can enter the mansion to search for the other players. Rounds are 6 minutes long. The sword player must find and kill other players, while the others can hide or gang up to assassinate him. Everyone has one life.
The name of the mode? Michael Jackson.

I didn't even know you had that much power over the player abilities in halo 3? Is this something of XBLA that I should know about?

I enjoy playing Tank Zombie but a lot of people set it up badly and give him stupidly low damage resistance so it's easy to kill him with a needler.

I also enjoy the "RPG" Rat's Nest thing.

It's not XBLA anyway...just XBL.

You can do pretty much anything with custom games...you just need to set it up, and custom games do not give experience or track any stats. Plus you need to make or download the proper maps.

An Hour Of War

No shields, random weapons, no kill limit and an hour on the timer. Some of the greatest hours I've had in gaming have been spent playing this. It's best enjoyed with full teams as well.

Those games sound awesome, Ill check it out^^
Some of the few I like:
"jenga" :players stand on a stack of bricks and one player launches objects in grav lifts at it. If players fall down they die.

"monster trucks": a small area with lots of vehicles. As time goes by, more vehicles spawn, until the round is over. You die if you fall out of the area. More points are awarded for splatters.

"scooby doo": infection game. There is a hallway full of teleporters that spawn random. Like in scooby doo where the guys run through lots of random dors with a monster after them.

edit: please give me the link to the michal jackson game and map :)

I created a game and map based very loosely on space invaders. Its essentially a bunch of zombies running across an open field at a guy with a sniper rifle trapped behind a line of barricades. It can be pretty fun when you have a lot of people. Its gets even more fun when powerups start appearing.
