The guys lucky he's got a job in the gaming industry. Because I think he'd have a hard time doing any normal job. Were you don't have any say over what you do.
Ummmm, it doesn't say that he was depressed because he couldn't get his own way. Believe it or not, depression doesn't just occur because of one thing, it takes several other factors as well to build up to cause severe depression like this. Chances are he had other problems in his life, that we don't know about because they aren't mentioned, that helped cause depression, and he felt that it would help if he changed his life in several ways, including leaving the company he worked for to start his own.

Also, bear in mind that working in the gaming industry isn't easy at all. I should know, I'm aspiring to get into the industry myself, and I'm working on an indie project too, and everything I've seen and heard about the industry is that it's much, much tougher, with longer hours and more exhaustion on the whole, than most other industries. Thus it's not really surprising he was driven to depression in such circumstances...
