To be honest, it's looking pretty damned good so far. But of course, reserving judgement due to the obvious fact that this game is still pretty early in development.

If anyone is curious I just took a peek at the Bungie.net forums and the nerd rage is already starting to rear it's ugly head. People are still complaining about how things are different and less like Halo 3 and how it isn't MLG and competitive and how it's selling out to the filthy casuals and betraying everything that Halo stands for.

...I think I want this game even more now.

Looks really really good. Now give me more Single Player info.
I think they are saving that for E3...

Although having some vidocs explaining multiplayer would be nice, especially some more clarification on the whole armor perks thing. Like what could it be? Could it be more advanced armor opponents give more points when killed as a trade off for being tougher than you? Could it be some benefit/disadvantage trade off? What?!

It sounds like that this game will be quite large content-wise from what I can hear. 100 audio tracks and they are making more?! My god, why would they need that many? Is it likely that less that 1/4th of those will be actually in the game?

Needless to say, at the very least the game play seems pretty similar to previous installments and thank god they decided against an overly scripted campaign.

If they are giving multiplayer a story then why not use Rooster teeth's Red vs Blue as the backdrop for the story.
Heheh...
AHAHAHAHAH!

Okay, the fact you guys are bringing that up amuses me. And I must say I would love 343i forever[footnote]Probably not forever[/footnote] if they did that.

The problem is, there isn't a reason that the Reds and Blues are fighting each other. Spoilers if you care about that, but it's just an online machinima web series, so you probably don't.
The Red team and Blue team are just arbitrary organizations both created and controlled by the same military command and manned by useless washout incompetents. The goal is to simply keep the people that they'd rather just forget about occupied, and occasionally use the ongoing skirmish to test one of their third party "Freelancer" super-soldiers.
That's it.
If that was applied to Halo 4, it would imply that everyone who plays matchmaking is a mindless, incompetent dullard with no real purpose. Not that the whole existence of Red vs. Blue doesn't already imply that; it goes out of its way to outline and lampshade it in the later seasons, where the cast stumble their way into actual competent threats.

343i probably has a slightly different approach. And while it's evident they must have picked up something from Red vs. Blue, they've likely also drawn some inspiration from Assassin's Creed in having a believable, plot-relevant multiplayer. I suppose we'll have to see where this leads, won't we?

How can they figure that out based on around fifteen seconds of game play? They must either be trolls or idiots, at least the flood section is still cool.

I think the game looks great, I'm not sure how I feel about the new armor, guess I have to get used to it. I'm so glad they kept the colors. Didn't like the music too much, too bad Marty didn't get signed on.

Now if we could get a trailer explaining the story I will really start to get hyped.

It looks all right, it's just a shame that none of the people at 343 seem as nice as the dudes at Bungie....

Also, it looks pretty similiar to Halo : Reach.... which is a shame, as Reach was different enough from 3 for me accept. This just seems different from Halo 3, not Halo : Reach.

So... it basically is doing just what Reach did..... and that doesn't need doing again.

Ehh? Forgive me if i'm wildly off the mark here but aren't red and blue just fighting because...well it'd be a bit hard to tell who was on what side if everyone was in the same colour armour?

also I feel that this might be relevant somehow

Caboose: "Hey Church, ever wonder why we're here?"
Church: "You know, Caboose, I used to not care. I just went along with orders and hoped that everything would work out for me. But after all that has happened, you know what I learned? It's not about hating the guy on the other side because someone told you to. I mean, you should hate someone because they're an asshole, or pervert, or snob, or they're lazy, or arrogant, or an idiot, or a know-it-all. Those are reasons to dislike somebody. You don't hate a person because someone told you to. You have to learn to despise them on a personal level. Not because they're Red, or Blue, but because you know them, and you see them every single day, and you can't stand them because they are a complete and total fucking douche bag."
Caboose: "...I meant why are we up here in the sun when we could be standing down there in the shade."
Church: "Oh. Yeah, okay. Let's go stand in the shade."

Buddy if you want a game like Halo 3 then please go play Halo 3 or ODST. Some of us want Halo 4 to be Halo to be Halo 4 and not Halo 3.5.

So here is random theory I thought of.

I think that the reason there is points instead of kill is so that unlocked armor can be better than earlier armor; balancing out this by rewarding people with more points for killing the guys with the more advanced armor.

Thus, meaning that while you can get better armor when higher leveled, that means players may target you more due to giving off more points on death.

Speculation!

I never said I wanted a game just like Halo 3. I said that it is a shame that they seem to be building on Halo 3, which is what Bungie did with Halo : Reach. So basically they are just remaking Halo : Reach, under a different name. I don't want another Halo : Reach. I want a improvement over Halo Reach, not just another form of Halo : Reach.

What I wanted was

Halo 3 < Halo Reach < Halo 4.

What we seems to be happening is

Halo 3 < Halo 4

Halo fan =/= Halo fanboy

I'm talking about the people from the Bungie forums who are still crying that Reach wasn't halo 3 repainted. Hell, the reason I came here was to get away from there.

I'm guessing that the Red Vs. Blue will be a training competition between the two teams to see who is the best.

Hopefully the campaign will introduce some new enemies that aren't copy pastes of the covenant.

They said new gameplay with the new enemies, so it is likely they are different.

I really don't know what to think. For one thing, the whole video they were basically saying "Bungie didn't do this right, and we're fixing that," and I thought Halo was just fine beforehand. That, and they're doing the three most over-used stories in Halo fanfiction: the story of red vs blue, the story of master chief, and the story of the SPARTAN-IVs. Why can't they do something that people are going to care more about?

On the other hand, though, I like how they aren't constrained by old Halo games. If they want to make something totally new, then they should have done that, but as it is, I'm looking forward to playing a great sci-fi shooter that looks and plays well and happens to share the name of that series Bungie started ten years ago. Of course, I'll have to throw away the universe when they ruin it, but I suppose Lucas taught us that no sci-fi universe is safe from a new trilogy.

I'm actually a little optimistic about Halo 4. Not just because of the talent attached at 343 Industries - a lot of which are Halo vets, but also because they're moving into new territory and taking a chance with the narrative.

They could have easily whipped up some kind of plot that retconned away most of the currently established lore for convenience purpoises, much in the same way Activision Blizzard has done with Starcraft and Diablo. They didn't. I applaud their attempt to, at least, try something different and move it forward in a meaningful way.

Delving into the Chief is an interesting concept; he's a solider, that's all he knows, and it defines him. He's a living weapon. I like the idea of exploring that concept. However, it could also end up being another "Anakin Skywalker". But I at least like that they're willing to try, as opposed to simply building another "CoD" FPS.

Something that I'm a tad concerned about, however, is that "Halo" is now one of Microsoft's few on-going exclusives. The "Gears of War" trilogy is done with. Fable has gone to the crapper. Alan Wake was solid, but didn't sell well. There's a lot riding on a new Halo entry - this means they could end up milking it even more so than they've done to date. I'm thinking of "Mass Effect 3" levels of "Buy this pair of socks in a store, and get an exclusive skin for your Captain's chair in-game!".

So far, though, Halo 4 looks solid.

Way too early to make a firm assumption on how it's going to turn out, but at least they're intending to make it a bit different and 343 are finally redoing the sounds which they've mostly had floating around for over 10 years.

While it didn't really sound bad, nothing in their mention of the campaign seemed noteworthy. The exact same kind of stuff is always being said by developers of damn near every game, 'We're going to really bring out the protagonist's character," "We're going to draw the player in and make the stakes higher than ever before."
Blah, maybe it'd just be best to assume that Halo 4 (and the majority of shooters) doesn't even have a campaign at least at this point.

I have a feeling that the reason the Spartans are fighting is gunna be really stupid, but not intentionally like RvB. It'll probably turn out something like the matches are training exercises or they're small elite forces fighting some sort of shady cold war within the UNSC.
Whatever their 'story' to the multiplayer is I hope it doesn't go beyond a short blurb on a loading screen or something, like Bad Company.

Anyway it's got me a lot more psyched for more info regardless.
