Halo 4 Won't Launch the Next Xbox Console

The developer confirmed that the next Halo will run on Xbox 360.

Rumors persist that Microsoft is gearing up to reveal a new console soon. Some people "in the know" are whispering that we'll see something in January at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, although why Microsoft would choose that show over E3 is anybody's guess. Such rumor-mongers even cited the fact that the house developing the next Halo omitted which engine the game would use to demo the game as evidence that it would run on the new console. Thankfully, the franchise director at 343 Industries Frank O'Connor sounded off on the NeoGAF forums, clearly stating that Halo 4 is an Xbox 360 game.

"Halo 4 will be on Xbox 360 and use a modified core of the Halo engine(s)," he posted this weekend [http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=32626761&postcount=910].

O'Connor said that they are working on the game code all the time, so that's why there was no disclosure on which engine would used. "[It's] not really a singular engine since it goes through fairly radical evolutions all the time," he continued.

Of course, O'Connor's statement doesn't confirm that no Xbox 720 will be announced in January, or that the new Halo won't run on that in addition to the Xbox 360. So, forum-goers, keep the rumor mill gristing!

Hell, that's good news for me.
I think that's good news for all of us. It's still too early to be announcing a new generation of consoles and there's still a lot of power that can be squeezed out of these consoles. I have a feeling that if you announced a new console now, people would just complain.

Halo 5 will almost definitely launch on the XBOX 720 or whatever though.

i think the console life should be at least 10 years and around the 8/9 introduce the next gen successor.

Lower that shield, comrade. You're among friends here. And you are indeed correct, the current console generation not only has no more potential hidden in a safe somewhere, it reached its limit years ago. It would appear that Uncharted 3 is the best the PS3 (mind you, that's the one with ever so slightly more power than the 360) can do, at least according to a developer. There is nothing left in the current gen consoles.

The only Halo game launch title is the first one. Halo 3 didn't come out for about two years after the 360.

As a (EDIT: primarily) console gamer, I agree -_-'

Yep, Halo isn't so much a launch title, its more of an Xbox hype generator title now.

OT: New Halo game, wasnt even aware that there was to be a Halo 4. Buuuuut, I guess this will keep the rumour mill turning and the "lolol Halo iz beeng milkedz!!!" threads coming.

But is what we have now Really so bad?
Console, no. Combat? Probably at least a bit.

And, no, what we have now isn't bad at all. But we've reached our current limit. Why not start finding the next limit? You know, break out current limit, and move on.

We could call it... a Limit Break... or something.

stop reminding me of final fantasy -_-

OT: i think they should move on soon, as stated above i think this generation has kind of reached its "limt" for console power/performance, but hey this is good for the xbox 360 i suppose, just adds to its wealthy library of games.

I think the next halo game will be shiz cos bungie aint doing it anymore.

Thats a massive assumption but something tells me that the cash cow is running dry.

I read a microsoft guys saying "the other halos suck cuz they haz no masta cheefs lul"

at that point I mourned the death of halo. Producers, Execs anyone with big money doesnt seem to understand games, they understand stats and figures and profits and they play the games, pretend to themselves they like them or know stuff about them but have no passion for them in their deepest hearts so I think they often fail when they try and take creative control of them or hand creative control to people who arent ready to take the mantle.

Halo Reach should of been the last Halo game, despite whatever people say, it was good.

if they pull off Halo 4 I will be impressed.

I like Halo. I am skeptical about this game, but for a franchise like this, I tend to have the "Why the hell not?" approach.

Personally, it is more than a little ridiculous to say that the 360 has reached its limit. Recent games have proven that the true limiting factor to console gaming isn't the hardware, but the software on the disc. I'd say that taking advantage of that should be the future of gaming, rather than this graphics race that seems to be going on - High Definition is an even bigger gimmick than 3D, IMHO. Of course, I suppose processing power is an issue as well...

That being said, I might give this one a shot.

Well, if was supposed to be a HUGE hit, it would have been for the new console. However, Halo isn't that big anymore. Reach was the last shot, and mostly since Bungie has left, Halo just isn't going to go anywhere that fast. We shall see the first piece of the puzzle with its upcoming "Halo Anniversary" game.

Halo's always been a launch title for the MS consoles, right?

Well then, why the fuck not? Q4 2012 is a perfect time to launch a new console, both because of the then upcoming Christmas season, and because of the expected renewal of gaming technology. Hell, this generation will have been going for 6 years at that point. You know, the typical lifespan of a generation.

Face it, guys. It's time you moved on to the 720. It's time Sony moved on to the PS4. It's time Nintendo moved on to the Wii U. This generation is over. It was a good one, but now it's time to start anew.

Becuase why waste money on learning how to program for the new one when you can jsut do it for (relatively) cheap on the old one?
It's Halo, so they'll make bucketloads of cash off the game anyway.
