I was just using your comments about MineCraft to launch my initial tirade, after that I kinda went off on my own little tangent. Should probably have made that clearer, sorry about any confusion.

I've never really been exposed to the online aspects of CoD etc because I tend to only play with friends in the same room as me so I can't really comment on the community.

The Games are fun but that doesn't mean that they improve gameplay or try something new, every game is the same with probably 1 or 2 new things

CoD stories are not my favorites, but I actually had a very emotional moment in Modern Warfare 2. I live in the DC area and during the loading screen that pretended to be an emergency response system, I thought it was real. It said Prince Georges County and stuff like that, stuff I hear on the radio every day. I was freaked out until I noticed the loading bar. You never know when a game is going to strike you like that. It really made me think about what it would be like to be invaded, way more than Homefront did.

Though I really play Halo and CoD for the local multiplayer. Great, fun way to relax and mess around with friends, especially playing Ballistic Knives Only and stuff like that.

Let me break it down...

halo 1: enjoyed it thoroughly (Mainly the single player, then only about 2 hrs multiplayer)
Halo 2 and up: Havent played (Mostly because at the time halo 2 was xbox and vista exclusives and i didnt want vista)

CoD: Played from world ar war and newer. Absolutely loved both modern warfares and the challenges part was the best part of them. CoD black ops, i just got to 1st prestege this weekend past and have racked up over 35 hours so far and still loving it!

Edit: I even have 2 copies of black ops that i bought and both for PS3 (No, one of them wasnt a gift)

I love Halo but never got into CoD myself.
I am not much of a FPS girl but some are okay and don't hate CoD just don't find it fun.I never understood the reason to hate a game or genre, just don't play it and move on, sheesh

I dunno, I just like the quick gameplay where you can take out a few guys and just barely make it into cover and survive with a sense of accomplishment. Halo was always a blast with friends, since we'd always mess with the game settings and contort it into something crazy and laughable. Hell, messing with Forge in 3 was always great.

I'm sick of it. I just read a thread about overrated games that you haven't played and probably hate, and within 4 posts CoD and Halo were up. I'd say a majority of the posts afterward were "Halo/CoD because it had boring environments/characters/bad plot/generic gameplay...but I never played it but it sucks ass."

People, Halo 2 was the first FPS I ever got into. It's how I spent my weekends and summers with my friends: playing a game that we thought was fun. I know I've had many fun moments with the Halo games, and I doubt I'm the only one. I don't really care for CoD all that much, but I have played it several times (and had fun) and I think the hate on it is as unfair as the hate on Halo. That's why I'm lumping the two together.

Here's what I want you to do: I want you to tell me things about CoD and Halo that you liked. I want to read them all. Characters, events in the story, fun moments you had playing it with your friends, the design of the vehicles or structures, anything that you liked from either series! Tell me!

And if someone talks about something that you didn't like, I'm sure that someone just made a CoD or Halo hate thread that you can post it on if you really need to get it off your chest. I know this is an easy target for fights or assholes to break out on, but I want to keep this thread happy.
COD4 and Halo 1 were nice games. their 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 versions mattered very little to me, they were just over-popular expansions that discredited the games. Atleast for me.

I don't hate COD or Halo. I like playing the games.

I just hate the excessiveness of praise these games are getting more their new releases like their heaven sent.

I also am tired of people comparing every single game to in modern settings to COD, pronouncing it a COD clone and that it sucks. So annoying

Hate the people, not the games.

You tell me how someone could be so psychotic as to enjoy losing. 7 years of FPS gaming and all I do is lose. I don't have fun and I never will, care to explain? FPS games are the worst kind of "fun" there is. It's only fun for about 5% of the community. The other 95% are stuck with some shitty ass team while they lose constantly and manage to worm out some single win which is supposed to magically make things fun again.

FPS games are about as much fun as getting shot. I gag every time someone even mentions playing multiplayer and I sure as hell will never go back. I'm so sick of every time I try and play it's just loss after loss. YOU prove to me that multiplayer based games are fun and I'll go buy a pair of skates because clearly Hell has frozen over.

Both Halo and CoD are popular. Therefore elitists who prefer things 'underground' will hate on them out of some inane fear of their favourite past-time becoming less individual to them.

Halo and CoD both control incredibly well, generally have fun and varied campaigns, and solid, extensive multiplayer. You want to ***** that a focus on multiplayer at the expense of single player is a detriment to the industry? As internet connections become faster and in more and more homes, a sub-section of multiplayer-centric games are an inevitability. Fear change less.

Seriously, every time I see some self-assured forum user pull up the generic 'bland and boring FPS shooter' line, I die a little inside. Have you seen how colourful and vibrant the Halo games are?

If you want to try Halo and you're a PC user, they released Halo: Combat Evolved for PC back in '03. I found a copy in a local Gamestop about a year ago. It ran pretty good, and there's actually quite a large multiplayer base for the game's Custom Edition, which you can download for free off the interwebs, as long as you have a product key for the vanilla game. CE also allows for custom maps, and there's a whole website dedicated to distributing them. Might want to try that.
Nah, cheers. Prefer my BFBC2 to any infantry shooter by default. Like big maps, vehicles and all that jazz :)

I'm a Halo nut. I've played every game, read every book, watched Halo Legends about...5 million times? and I can't get enough of it. Call of Duty, I've kept with since I bought the first one many years ago (Not Modern warfare, The WWII one that most people forget about) and I Can't get enough of it. Those games make you feel like you're actually there a lot of the time. The new ones are great too because it actually throws in a really great story. They're both great games. (Oh, and, I'm not a frat boy or a 12 year old kid either.)

And by the way, what does generic even mean in this context? It's a freaking shooter! what do you expect it to be?

I don't like anything about them.

EDIT:: I don't really see what Halo continues to add nowadays, although the originals weren't terrible. CoD games aren't bad, it's just again, other games are typically better.

There's always worst, bad, decent, good, and best on the scale of games. Most people blur the three middle options together a lot.
