i think the dmr does need a power upgrade. its a pistol for long range, the should have it good close range, shoot harder, and it decreases power with distance. cuz as of right now, its the same as the pistol except a farther scope and longer shot. love the pistol. super strong.

Most has been said. But surprisingly the armor abilities are pretty well balanced. The gameplay feels familiar, but fresh. But yeah, nades should NOT be lethal when I have 3/4 shields up. And the reticule is a little too opaque. And I wish that the stalker ability would make me a LITTLE harder to see, because as of now, 90% of its usefulness is the radar jammer.
Dunno if somebody already said this, I'm not in the mod to sift through posts, but the cloaking is more effective the slower you move. Running gives you pretty useless poor camo, and crouching gives you high end camo.
true if you run you give away your position, but what it does do is screw with their systems, and then if you do need to run to kill em, it gives you a split second edge to shoot first, because it takes a second for them to realize there is and invis guy right there

So far, I like it. Armor abilities are wonderfully helpful. JetPack is fun to play with, weapons are well balanced, though some can be a bit cheap, grenades are a bit over-powered, customization is decent, though it is kinda hard to get a lot of CP in a small amount of time.

Sprint, pointless
Camo, brilliant
Jetpack, brilliant
Armourlock, bullshit

All the new guns seem to be OK so far (I don't think I've got the chance to use them all yet) I like the weird lock-on plasma grenade launcher thing (It makes high pitches sounds and then fires blue things at people that blow up) I wish you had a choice in all gametypes between covenant and spartans.
I also like Stockpile that's a fun gametype, requires a lot more thinking than normal capture the flag.

Not encountered any glitches so far, except that everyone seems to be able to melee faster than me. (I know they're not doing that "BXB" melee glitch)

My only real complaints are that the melee system in Halo 3 was better, as it wasn't just who hit first, and that it is IMPOSSIBLE to win 3v4, or anything like that (At least in my experience, the bigger team has 100% of the time won, no matter the gametype). In Halo 3 I could pull off a 2v4 win, and I'm sure that most skilled people could.

And I can't get kills with the DMR and miss the BR like a brother. But now I have the Needle Rifle, so it's all good.

Grenades are gamebreakingly overpowered. Blast radius is too large and damage is too high. I also HATE the new melee system. Basically the first melee will always take off your shields completely, but will NEVER do damage to health if you have any shields left at all. Any close range encounters devolve into mashing the melee button over and over again. It's also possible to lose 1v1 even if you get the guy down to low shields because he hits the first melee. Dumb.

I like a lot of the weapons though, and the armor abilities are all pretty damn cool, so if those 2 issues are addressed it'll be a very fun game.
The idea is that when the shields go down the extra damaga would "realistically" not transfer over to the person under it. So it's much more effective to continue shooting till their sheild "pops" and then melee. So it will only not be addressed but it was their idea.

On Topic. I do like what I have seen in the beta. So far my biggest complaint is that oddball on swordbase turns into a grenade spaming cluster****. They really need to retool oddball somewhat, maybe remove the grenades. Also I agree with the fact that grenades have become overly powerful but I felt frags were to weak in Halo 3. So I hope they reach a balance.

Only seen one "true" glitch though and thats the double melee people have figured out how to do. So hopefully Bungie can fix that for final release.

This. DMR is way underpowered compared to alternitives like the Needle Rifle and the Pistol. On that note I love the Pistol.

Sprint - ever played headhunter? Yeah, it's useful.
Camo - hell yeah
Jetpack - stupid
Armorlock - good defense against grenade spam, but can be annoying sometimes.
Lock on plasma thing - plasma launcher
And you will have choice in gametypes between covenant and spartans, they just aren't out yet.

And I've encountered a glitch where someone would melee twice in the time it takes me to do one, but that was only one time, and it might just have been lag. If it's happening to you all the time, I'd blame user error.

You better not be camping you son of a *****!

I joke I joke, I could not agree more. The nades only need a little less damage then they already have and I'll be good. For me though, the DMR is fine, but the assault rifle could use just a titch more damage...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love halo becuase for me, the controls just feel right to me. I don't know why. It is just a game where you shoot at anything that moves but it just feels satisfying to me.

I want the beta badly but need to delete old saves and stuff to get enough free space. I'm mad that I have to download it to the hard drive to play. I plan on doing this tonight and then I can give my full opinion. My fanboy opinion says "I love it" without even playing it.

I can already tell by the way that people are playing it that a lot of people are going to be using the jetpacks to death.
Really? I haven't had a problem with jetpack players I feel like people will use armor lock to death. Damn that armor lock, it throws a fun but frustrating dynamic into battle. =-)

OT: I think the beta is really fun, the only gripes that I have are that the explosive weapons (grenades, rockets, plasma launcher) are incredibly over powered and the blast radius is way too big for how slowly the characters move. My second gripe is that I feel that all the projectile/directed energy weapons are extremely under powered, with the exception of the assault rifle. My third and final gripe is that the sword and hammer lunge has been increased far too much, I get damn irritated when some dude lunges all the way across a room with one of those and I have absolutely no way to combat it.

People tend to forget what the beta is for in the first place. I'm definitely going to buy this one when its released.

more damage, the assault rifle was the most overpowered cheapest weapon in halo 3. It encourages mindless charging that makes the game boring. persuasion weapons like the battle rifle or DMR increase precise aim at short and long range which lead to more interesting battles. the assault rifle is ok the way it is but the DMR needs to be a little more powerful so you can have a chance against somebody with terrible aim charging you spraying assault rifle bullets. It should be that if you have good enough aim you can kill the asult rifle guy every time. when the DMR is five shot kill its impossible to do so. and where people got the idea that the DMR encourages camping is beyond me

in a perfect world a slayer load out option would include the DMR

As some people have pointed out, the grenades are way overpowered and their blast range is too large. Also, I think Armor Lock is an ability that should have never been created. It's pretty cheap and unless the attacking player has a gravity hammer, you just wait around until it's done. I can see the appeal, but so far I've found it to be useless and stupid. The melee aspect is also a little screwed up, because sometimes it seems way too overpowered and sometimes it seems like it does nothing, and there are indeed a lot of button-mashing sessions. I'm happy to see the Equipment (like Power Drain, Regenerate, etc) from Halo 3 gone, but I sort of miss the Bubble Shield because it's been replaced by Armor Lock, but I think the Bubble Shield was really fun to use strategically (and in single doses). I also think they shouldn't rename the regular melee kill "pummel" and the assassination "beat down"... they should just stick with beat down for a regular melee kill and assassination for a kill from behind. I mean, if you sneak up behind someone and slit their throat, that's more of an assassination than a beat down.

Finally, I think the game would be more enjoyable if Bungie brought back the BR and got rid of the DMR, but kept the Covenant Needle Rifle (because the two are the same). Either that or bring back the Covenant Carbine. Having 2 weapons that fire powerful, single shots and not even having one that can fire continuous/burst shots that aren't as powerful sucks.

Other than that, it seems like it'll be a great game. The Jetpack, Stealth and Scout abilities are great, and I like the new fire rate and power of the Needler and the Pistol. Covie Slayer and Stockpile are great fun, as is CTF on Swordbase, even if you lose (on Powerhouse it's a little frustrating for both sides. Also the flag and the capture point aren't across the map from each other, they're on the same side kind of, so it seems like a waste of a huge map--the flag/capture points should be where they are in Stockpile). And Invasion comes out tomorrow, which is undoubtedly the most looked forward to game mode in the Beta. I can't wait for that and its stages of fun.

I agree with your Assessment of Sprint, it's kind of useful for Objective-based games like CTF, Stockpile, Oddball, whatever. You get to the thing first.

And the melee thing... yeah that happens to me a lot, other people seem to be able to bash twice as fast as me.
