Yes yes, it's another Reach thread. But I did a search, and nobody else has done a thread (That I could find) Along the lines of whether or not it's worth getting. More specifically, pre-ordering.
Basically I'm on the fence about whether or not to pre-order the game, and hoping The Escapist can help suggest pros and cons. It looks like it'll be a great game, and I will get it.. just not sure whether to pre-order and jump into the fun the same time as everyone else (As well as just when I start college again.. seriously, why do games come out at the end of summer holidays when we have less free time?)
Or, do I wait a few months to get a cheaper/pre-owned version. Because it -is- £40. Which is.. excessive. I only got a 360 this summer, and about five pre-owned games.
(And I could easily go into a rant about game prices for consoles, I mean look at Dead Rising 2, £25 for PC, £40 for the 360 on release. Um.. Why? Where does the 360 garner £15 worth of value?)

You get the idea. Gimme a hand fellow gamers, for I am undecided on Reach, whether to wait, or whether to pre-order.

Im getting it on pre-order because its one of the few games that I feel if I dont pick up imediatly when it gets out, im not getting it until after christmas. I really dont care about the little ingame recon helmat, I just want it on release date.

For the regular version? No, not unless your local store is doing a preorder promotion. For the special edition, maybe, depends on how popular it is in your area. For the Legendary edition if you want it and have the cash then yes absolutely, namely because of availability. Most stores are no longer taking preorders for the legendary and I dont think they're going to be making legendarys beyond the first wave of sales. So it really depends on what edition you want.

If you just want the game and no extra bells and whistles then pre-ordering is not for you.

I base pre-ordering on the ingame extras that come with it, and their usefulness. I try not to be a fanboy of things, so that's generally what it comes down to for me...Except Fable, that's the only thing I've ever felt "OMG!" about, but, I still wouldn't have pre-ordered it without the nifty extras.

No, never. Just wait for a sale to come out. There was a Red Dead Redemption for $30 sale from Amazon not too long after it launched. Wait for one of those and get it then.

Amazon just sent me an email this morning that said they are giving $20 back for Reach pre-orders, which is double their normal incentive.

I'm probably going to pre-order it just for that.

The only time I pre-order a game is when they cut the price, like Amazon. I never saw the point of getting in game items, because there is always something better.

If you're going back to school and won't have that much time to play it (I'm in the same boat), it might be worth waiting to pick it up. With the holiday season right around the corner, you know retailers are going to have all kinds of sales/bundles/discounts/whatever in the coming weeks. Would you rather grab it now for full price and leave it on the shelf for a while, or score it later for a better deal?

You tell me.

Are you a Halo fan?

Do you like FPS games?

Do you like futuristic shooters?

Do you like forge and/or the look of the new forge world?

If yes to any of these, then it would be in your best interests to buy the game. However, I pre-ordered it so I know I am getting it for sure. If you really want the game, I would pre-order to maker sure you get it. If you're not sure, just wait a bit.

In my opinion, no games is worth pre-ordering. Not because they're all bad games, but because I just never cared. I'm more than happy to wake up, get dressed, and go to the nearest game retailer when a game I want is released. I'll do the exact same thing when Reach comes out (and I'll probably get a copy because most people who will try to buy it are going to be in school, while I can just wake up and go grab a copy). If I can't get it that day, then I'll wait a little bit. It isn't a life or death situation if I don't get it day one (though it'd be nice), so I'm perfectly fine with not pre-ordering.

I do understand pre-ordering, and I can see why people do it, it's just that I personally don't care enough to do it (also I lack a credit card, that might be a contributing factor).

Unless the game sells out of course. E.g. Starcraft 2.

Yes, you should pre-order it.

Quiet. All Yahtzhee will do is hate on it because it has "Halo" in its name.

as for OP, if you pre-order it, you get a nice helmet, but other then that, no reason why. Well, except for making sure you CAN get a copy of the game..

I just around never get games new, but thats going to change the second Valve starts taking preorders for Portal 2...

My advice: If you like Halo, preorder it, because for the next two weeks it'll probably be off the shelves.

Pre-orders are pointless unless they come with something you want. As someone who has worked in retail 7 years i've never seen a game sell out the first week, unless its a place like gamestop. Just walk into your local target and you should be good.

It's not a review, it's a critique. Yahtzee is about as good at giving you a clear idea of how good a game is as the cover art.

OT: I'm pre-ordering it just so that I have a guaranteed copy.

I already addressed that issue, if it sells out (ie. no copies left), then I'll just wait a few more days. No game sells out permanently, so my patience makes pre-ordering pointless. However, if he has the means to pre-order it, then more power to him. Also my local Wal-Mart always has over 100 copies of every new game, so I think I'm good (most people go to the Wal-Mart on the other side of the city because it's closer to them, the one I go to is on the outskirts).

I might preorder it to claim myself a martyr to the cause. If my purchase means that the last Halo sells out quicker, thus removing the Halo scourge from the world that much faster, then I'll buy it.

Short answer:

No, I'm not pre-ordering it nor buying it later, but I'll recommend it so others can remove it from existence faster.

Let's get this over with peoples. Halo has outlived it's franchise worth.

Oh okay, just that some games sell out really quickly. Depends where you live I guess.
