I've been playing the new Halo 3: ODST and it came to me that its exactly the sme damn thing. ODSTs can run almost as fast, jump almost as high, and carry the turrets FASTER. In the Halo world, they are easier to train and can flat out be produced at an alarming rate. So what I ask is, why do we need to be the Master Chief when there are hundreds upon hundreds of ODSTs crawling around?

You were playing Easy weren't you?

Play Legendary and all your complaints will dissolve like bread in hot water.

Also if you look carefully instead of raging over how similar the game is, you'd notice that the Brutes are actually taller than you.

What? They change your running speed and jumping height based on the difficulty you play on?

That seems odd. It would probably confuse some people when they go from playing campaign to playing multiplayer.

No actually. I played on Heroic but I had about 2-3 deaths. Im halfway through legendary but it just doesn't seem s hard as other things like Gears of Wars insane or Call of Dutys veteran.

I can't help but wonder why they're called Spartans in general. Much of a Spartan's warrior ability was based on a strong sense of brotherhood with other soldiers of his group. As my understanding of it goes, Master Chief primarily operated alone. So that doesn't make much sense outside a multi player co-op.

Can ODST flip tanks with one hand?
I never got the opportunity. I was however, able to flip every other vehicle just as easily as I did in halo.
Then what the hell?

ODST even get more shielding, is regenerating health(the only difference)really worth the expense of spartens?

There used to be more than one Spartan. There was an entire group of them. It's just that all but 3 of them were blown to bits. So now there's only Master Chief, and 2 (I think) other Spartans that locations are unknown.

I have, in fact I had to flip it several times just to get it up right.

That also confused me.

Not to mention that the screeching monkeys that generally make up the Halo multiplayer experience is as far from team spirit and brotherhood asy ou're gonna get

Well, I guess they were trying a new aspect, but they couldn't change much without abandoning the halo premise. I discussed the same issue with my friends, Technically the master chief could only heft around turrets because they were super-human, and then you see these ODST's, admittedly beyond your average human, carrying it with just as much ease. But if you just look beyond that and enjoy the sexy, sexy voice of Adam Baldwin, all will fade away.

Because apparently Bungie didn't want to change the gameplay that much. What they have change from Spartan II to ODST is good but they should have gone all the way. ODSTs shouldn't be as strong and as fast as the Master Chief.
Hey, who knows, maybe they'll make another ODST game and make all the gameplay changes they should have.
Spartan IIs should be faster than they are in the games and less effected by recoil (they have mechanical armor, surely there should be no recoil at all?).
ODSTs shouldn't be as strong as they are in H3:ODST.

Are you seriously trying to fit gameplay mechanics into story elements? It doesn't work that way, at all.

Not if you read all the fluff novels. John only works alone because all the others are missing, dead, or on Onyx.
Initially I was a Halo hater back before logic overcame bias. My understanding of it comes primarily from Let's Plays and trips into the Wiki.

I also tend to have an aversion to game-based novels in general.

The ODST are an entirely volenteer corps. They're also the best of the best. The SPARTAN II project made 75 nutters who were smarter than any normal soldier could aspire to be, they also had no sex drive to distract them, not to mention all the other augmentations. 4 spartans would take out an entire covenant groud invasion. UNFORTUNATELY, Bungie didn't feel quite comfortable giving their Halo fanbase a game in which combat was actually fast paced, so they decided that they'd give you the MC with a larger health bar. This may have been due to budget and time constraints, or it may just have been them passing up an excelent oppurtunity for some kind of guerilla warfare game. BUT, Halo's fanbase is mainly comprised of people who don't have time for tactics, ambushes, or anything other than runnign up to try and get in the first melee, so in retrospect, ODST being what it is makes perfect sense. Even if it IS an affront to actual gamers.

O MY GOD! A GAME IS UNREALISTIC? what has happened to the gaming industry!
A complaint that a game is unrealistic to real life and an assessment that a game is unrealistic in the setting, narrative and world it has crafted are two different things though.
