I will wait for someone to figure out how to block the DX12 calls (if they can do that like they did with some DX 10 and 11 games) to allow this game to run on Windows 7. It may bork the shaders but I can live with that if the game is decent.

That's pretty cool I suppose, I liked the first game for what it was. Though I would love to see a Halo game done in the style of Star Wars: Battlefront instead. The Halo universe is perfect for the same type of game. All the different factions, classes, vehicles, interesting locations, etc. That would be an instant purchase for me.

So where does it fall in the timeline, and why are Spartans losing so badly to Brutes? They are Spartans, right?

Anyway, another point toward getting a Xbox One. Still not quite enough games on it for me to justify buying the thing, but it's getting there. Perhaps with time.

I though the first Halo Wars was okay. Not terribly amazing or anything, but it was a fun little romp. I borrowed it from a friend and enjoyed it enough that I'm willing to give the sequel a try.

I view as finally not portraying SPARTANs like Gods. That Elite v SPARTAN sequence from the first Halo Wars still pains me every time I watch it, like the enemy had been hit with the stupid stick just to make the super soldiers look more awesome.

Plus we know from the past that they're not exactly the all mighty soldiers the UNSC wants everyone to believe. I remember one from First Strike getting lol-insta killed by a Brute who just spammed six shots from the Brute Shot into her gut, and it was amazing[footnote]If it's not obvious, I've never been a fan of the SPARTANs[/footnote].

Just a reminder that the last time Creative Assembly tried to do a "Traditional" RTS, we got Stormrise.

I couldn't care less. They've destroyed Ensemble and now have to outsource. They try to put a console RTS, which hasn't worked before, on PC. The story most likely will be shit, the gameplay outside of controls will likely be shallow and the UI will also probably be shit.

Who cares? And making this mandatory to have Windows 10? I'm not even against Windows 10, but they can shove it if they commit these atrocities like making the wireless adapter for the XBone pad compatible only with Windows 10 and making shit games an exclusive for no reason whatsoever. It's like they have a user base on a platform, in this case an OS called Windows 7/8, release a new OS and treat the old OS, their own product, immediately like it's from a competitor. Jesus Christ, Microsoft. Fuck you.

Listen, to all the fans of Halo Wars; I whish you much fun. Maybe I'm even wrong, but from a non-tainted p.o.v., at least by not being a fan since the release of Halo 2, I think my points are pretty reasonable. But in regard of having fun or buying this game, please don't mind me. I can't relate to that decision, but it would be more important to me that you're satisfied.

Which honestly I can't believe you will be. :D

Now that it's on PC and next-gen consoles, maybe the population cap won't be so pathetic.

I'm actually looking forward to this. The original Halo Wars, in my opinion, was lame.

And what about Windows 7? Are they seriously only going to make this work on Windows 10?

Funnily enough, this makes me more worried about Windows 10 than any game. If they're trying to strong arm the OS like this, that suggests to me that 10 is a piece of shit (note, I know nothing about 10 beyond 'it exists' at this point). This reminds me of when they made Halo 2 a Vista exclusive, and we all know how well Vista went down. Funnily enough I don't recall them pulling any tricks like this for Windows 7, maybe because that OS could stand on its own merits.

Filed under: I'll care when it's a real Halo game. Seriously though I remember Halo Wars, it was barely a decent game and was a pretty poor RTS.

The chances are that they are going to build the game with Dx12 only therefore you can only play the game in Win10. They did the same with Halo 2 where you can only play it on Vista and above because of Dx10.

I enjoyed the first Halo Wars, little bare-bones for an RTS, but still pretty solid. But taking a chance and upgrading to Windows 10 to play it is not worth it. Maybe sometime in the future.

This makes me sad.

When Yahtzee reviewed the first Halo Wars, it was a crossover with Graham Stark. That will never happen again.

Assuming, of course, that Yahtzee would be willing to do Halo Wars 2. He's made himself absolutely clear that he has no interest in doing another RTS.

RTS should never be on consoles, period. The clunkiness and lack of precision to do multiple things fast are things that the PS4 (even with the limited mouse/keyboard peripheral) and XB1 simply cannot do.

Of course. If you haven't noticed Windows 7 seems to be the last OS people (especially gamers) widely liked. Everything after that has required Microsoft to lock new stuff to the latest OS so people are forced to upgrade.

OT: Well, I enjoyed the first one despite it's shortcomings but this trailer was very underwhelming. It looked like a generic sci-fi film trailer, no way to tell what it's about. You leave with more questions than before since it gives so little info (is it even a continuation of the first game's story?) Hell, you can't even figure out what genre the game is.

This assumes that all RTS experiences must revolve around the effective management of many complex elements, an assumption that I believe has been holding back the RTS genre.

I have actually been hearing really good things about windows 10. I intend to test it out myself when it is released because it is essentially free. And strictly speaking, in most technical respects Windows 8 was a big improvement to windows 7, it was just the UI that was bad. From what I hear the 10 UI is really good.

In any case, the decision to not release Direct X 12 on windows 7 is not unusual, and the spin that it is an attempt to force gamers to update is unlikely in my opinion. More likely it has new features that are not easily ported back to 7 and they are trying to entice developers by a powerful, modern and easy to use library. You don't need to force anyone to upgrade if they want to, and if developers start making games for DX 12 because it is just better gamers will move to windows 10, especially with it being effectively free.
