From EpicBattleAxe [http://www.epicbattleaxe.com/main/2009/4/21/halo-wars-dlc-announced.html]:

Microsoft has announced the "Strategic Options" game add-on pack for Halo Wars which is slated to be made available "in the coming weeks." "Strategic Options" will offer up three new game modes designed to "dramatically change the multiplayer experience and challenge players to rethink their battle tactics."

We've got more details on the modes for those of you that are interested after the jump.

The three new Strategic Options modes include:

* Keepaway Mode is the "Halo Wars" adaptation of Capture the Flag. Teams will battle it out to capture a free-roaming Forerunner Sentinel to score points before the other team. Capture three sentinels to claim victory.
* Tug of War Mode is all about having a stronger army than the opponent. Defeating enemies is essential, but success is determined by a combination of the army, buildings and resources left standing in the end.
* In Reinforcement Mode, all active battle units are provided in successive waves. Players must adapt their tactics and use the ever-changing set of units to outwit and outlast the enemy.

"Strategic Options" also adds four new Achievements worth a total of 100 points:

* "One and Done" (30 points): Score the winning point in a game of Keepaway against Legendary A.I.'s
* "Pull Hard, Pull Deep" (20 points): Win and never trail in a Tug of War game
* "Freak on a Streak" (20 points): Gain at least 15 population from a single wave in a Reinforcement game
* "Living Loving Bug" (30 points): Obtain a Scarab during a Reinforcement game

.

.

So thoughts? As one of those who actually enjoys Halo Wars I'm rather excited, I just hope the price is reasonable.

Reinforcements mode sounds fun.
I'll have to see Keepaway in action before I decide on it though.

Ignoring "Reinforcement Mode", the other two smell a lot like they are trying their damn best to put FPS modes into an RTS game. Do they not get it?

Agreed, but they do still look like they could be quite interesting at least.

Keepaway reminds me more of the mission in Dark Crusade where you have to gather servitors than Capture the Flag.

Tug of War seems to me like an action RTS version of "Economic Victory."

So (not to be confrontational but) could you explain yourself to me?

EDIT: Also, I've just noticed that getting a Scarab in Reinforcement will give you both of that gametype's achievements.

I'm probably a little spoiled by PC RTS but the modes above just, to me, seem like they are still thinking FPS when planning out the development of the game.

I think I see what you mean now, they're closer to FPS gametypes than RTS ones. Also if you ask me Reinforcement sounds a lot like respawning.

Aww I wanted to see new leaders. Forge and Anders are getting tiring and I just don't like using Cutter and the covies.

Oh well. This will be good to. I'm getting tired of flanking my opponets and then decimating them before they even have a chance to react. (And vice-versa)

No release date yet. The official community site [http://www.halowars.com/] says "in the coming weeks" so I don't think the wait will be too long.

If they have a Matchmaking system like in Halo 3 then I'll be happy. I'm sick of fighting high rank generals with their Warthog rushing tactics.

I disagree with the reasonable price. Unless I can buy single points or multiple of 20s then any DLC should be an even 100. I am sick of spending another 20 bucks because some DLC pack came up with some stupid odd number leaving me a few points short. Or give me some interest on the points I have stored.
