But yeah, I like ponies, both because of the Escapist and because I love childrens' media in general and would like to make childrens' books some day.

Friendship is Magic is just a big bonus for me, because other people are finally starting to get how awesome childrens' stuff can be, even if it lacks nerd references or whatever.

The Escapist had a news post with this in it. I didn't have anything going on, so I watched it. And then at 1:26 a rainbow pegasus kicked a dragon in the face. From that point on, I didn't even try to fight it.

I became a "brony" back in August of last year. I kept seeing references to the show cropping up wherever I went online. I was initially skeptical about the whole thing, particularly given the stigma surrounding previous iterations of the show (transparent marketing ploy pandering to little girls without respecting their intelligence). Finally curiosity got the better of me and I started watching FiM from the first episode onwards. My thoughts were as follows:

"Okay, here goes nothing. I hope I don't regret this."

"Hmm, that wasn't too bad, I guess I might as well watch the second episode."

*Four hours and ten episodes later*

"WHY CAN'T I STOP WATCHING THIS?!"

btw Twilight Sparkle is by far the best pony. Deal with it.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. Rarity is simply too fabulous to be anything but the best (I'll admit I was in the Fluttershy camp for a long time, though).

Call me late to the party, but I saw yesterday that every episode of Mlp:FiM was uploaded commercial free to YouTube, so I decided to open up my personal Pandora's box and watch the first few episodes. Little did I know that I had gone too deep, and now I'm have to watch the next episode regardless of any feelings towards doing so. It seems that I've become a brony overnight, and I'm scared now. I got sick of hearing about ponies and went to youtube to see what all the hype was about. Was a brony by the end of the day.

The weirdest thing in my opinion is that Hasbro realizes how many of the viewers aren't their target audience, and try to counter that with CMC episodes.

It's fine to like something, just don't be one of those people who gets over-enthusiastic and in-your-face about it. Too many pony fans are completely wrapped up in how awesome it is to like a cartoon.

I couldn't figure out if all the folks online were serious about being pony fans, or if it was one big ironic joke. So I caught an episode and got hooked. Wasn't hard for me, I was an obessive pony fan as a kid- it was kind of like buying a bottle of wine for a recovered alcoholic.
