I dunno if this is where to put this, but I guess it is.

Okay so, a month or so ago, the sound on my computer would occasionally skip while playing a song. "That's okay, I figured. Compared to what else computer's of mine like to do, I don't mind this." And it didn't really get worse. It just stayed like that.

However, two weeks ago now, my girlfriend and I were watching movies on it at her house. Whilst eating. On her bed. She picked up the plate when we were done, and as she got up, she dropped it. On my laptop.

The laptop blue screened immediately, then restarted. It worked absolutely perfectly from then on, and we got right back to watching Aliens. The incident left my mind.

However, two days later, I turned it on again. Whilst it had worked after the plate, and the full day after that, suddenly...it was fucked. Anything resembling audio or video, lags the shit out of my laptop. No viruses. I've defragmented heaps since then. No change. I don't know what's going on. Both audio and video lag so bad it's basically unlistenable and unwatchable.

If there's anyone remotely good with computers who knows what's going on, could you please help me? I've endured this for almost two weeks now, but I decided that if anyone knows how to fix it, it'd be better than sitting in silence with no music every night.

My advice, take the easy route. Backup your stuff, then format and reinstall the thing. A fresh install gives you an idea of whether it's a software or hardware issue :p

If it's hardware and you don't know what you're doing it's probably gonna be expensive, hope you got a warranty :p

It would be a hardware problem, he has ruled out viruses and defraged it a bunch. Not to mention it was a BSOD, meaning a hardware problem. Something inside probably got knocked around to much.

OP, at the moment your best to options are probably taking it to a tech that cant properly get inside and identify the problem (there is only so much guessing you can do across the internet) or buy a new one, and depending on the part/s chances are it would be cheaper to buy a new one.

That's a fair point but it's always worth a try before ya go looking at the hardware, doesn't take long and a backup is required either way.

You never know, if it's a hardware fault it could just be a damaged HDD, in which case a replacement isn't going to break the bank. This is all just guess work mind, hard to diagnose a fault over a forum :p

Just donate it to an underprivileged country, like France, and buy a new one.
+1

OP: Is it getting warm/hot really quick? - It could be the cooling matrix is full of crap.
Impact might of caused the hd some shock but if it's audio/visual it sounds like the cpu/gpu getting itself twisted...

This is why I suggested taking it to a tech who could diagnose it properly, and also specified "depending on the part/s"
