So both Sony and Nintendo have created hand held gaming systems, and they have all worked very well. My question is why has Microsoft not yet created a hand held Xbox? I think it would be really sweet if they made one, it would definitely be top of the line and with the games that are out for the Xbox and the 360 I think that a hand held Xbox would have probably the best library of on the go titles out there. Anyone else have an opinion?

Yeah that would be sweet. But I doubt that they would release it this year. Since the economy is in a bad state they would consider that a risk, they just laid off a ton of workers.

They will make a hand held. You can be sure about that. It won't be an innovative or good one but they will release one.

If they are going to release one it probably will be destroyed by the giant that is Nintendo.

I challenge the PSP working well, but still. Mainly because the major part of most 360 games is online play. While it is possible to do online play with hand helds, most of the time the games on hand helds are single player oriented. But if they did make a hand held, it must be called the xbox 180. But it would be a triangle, and incredibly hard to hold.

I would shoot Microsoft if they released a handheld. It's such a pointless thing - buying games to play on a tiny sceen when you're occasionally out and about, instead of waiting until you get home to play it on a proper console. The only handheld I have is a DS, and I don't really play on that either except when I'm *really* bored/Xbox 360 gets taken off me.

I'm not too sure about the 'innovative' or 'good' part.
Think about it: They've had the benefit of watching every handheld come and go. What worked, what didn't. And how this generations are fairing...

I think it could work.

Sony also had that benefit and it still lost against the DS.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were working on one. However nintendo has such a large grip on the handheld market with sony getting the remaining scraps that there's just no room for a 3rd player.

I don't know if MS wants to risk dumping money into a handheld in order to make money on the 2nd gen like it has with the xbox. What worked once might become a total loss

I think that if Microsoft were going to unveil a new handheld system, they'd probably be waiting until the "next gen" above the DS is about to come out, and they'll release something then.

The DS (much like WoW) is the undisputed winner right now, and trying to enter the handheld market at this point (much like entering the MMO market) isn't really a high-profit strategy. If they waited until the DS2 came out and released around the same time, at least they wouldn't have to compete as directly with the entire existing DS lineup.

If they can't make a full sized console work without breaking itself, making it smaller is probably not a good idea. Provided they got the inevitable system crashes every 5 seconds ironed out, I suppose this could be a good idea, since everyone seems to like developing games for Microsoft.

Well, that's definitely debatable...

I think if they make one it will be more akin to a PSP as a multimedia handheld gaming device.

I think it would have quite a few good games on it with quite a few interesting shooters, but really I would be reluctant to buy one as I've always loved Nintendo's handheld consoles since the Gameboy, and I couldn't live without the great games for the DS like Advance Wars, Pokemon and Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney.

My theory. The Xbox was intended to be a console remake of what we could play on the PC so why make anything else?

Just wait and watch, it'll have the Purple Screen of Death (PSoD) that's caused by a defective wiring in the screen resolution which overheats the RAM storage and thus defects the system so you have to send it in the ole cardboard coffin 5 times to get it fixed!

That's because Sony is always trying to re-invent the wheel with some new stupid format and a high price-tag.

...let's hope Microsoft doesn't make the same mistake.

Why do pc gamers always say this? console ports are some of the biggest games out now so where did you get the idea that consoles are playing remakes of what you already had?

No, the problem is still there. You only threw about 700$ (or more) bucks out of the window.
Well actually, my laptop cost less than my release xbox did, and I've got way more gameplay out of it than my xbox in under half the time. Plus I can use it to talk to my friends, do work on the move and piss off people on internet forums.

OK sorry, I just have never really understood the appeal of spending £100s on a handheld games system. I mean, people say "oh I have a Nintendo DS and I can do little brain excercises, I can get recipes and read a book, all in strained vision mode". You could buy a cheap laptop for a similar amount of money only you an infinite amount of things with a laptop. I'm sorry if this makes me sound like a dick because it isn't my intention, this just isn't a gimmick I buy into...

I do however own a NeoGeo Pocket Colour but that's a whole other story. It cost £30 including 18 games. Faithful servant for those journeys not long enough to fire up a game on my laptop but not short enough that I can get by singing Blondie songs to myself in my head.

Not what I meant. I like consoles just not handhelds.

Microsoft will inevitably release a handheld, if only to put up competition with Sony and Nintendo. If they do put one out, I think it will be more like a miniature laptop. Maybe with only a touch screen and a joystick. It could work, they would never admit that it was a handheld console though. they would sell it as a new laptop for rediculously high prices.

I just wrote this as it popped into my mind so it may not make sense.
