The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time!

Yes, today marks the 10th anniversary of the U.S. release of Ocarina of Time. 10 years ago, a game that revolutionized the action-adventure genre and storytelling in games was released. It was praised by gamers and critics alike, and hailed as the greatest game ever made. 10 years later, that title still arguably stands strong, even in the face of newer, more refined games and technology, and it's own successors, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

And to make this into a discussion topic, think back to the time when you first played OoT. What went through your mind when you played it? What moments do you remember the most? What was your favorite part? If you are like me and are starting another play-through to commemorate this day, discuss your thoughts about it. Even if you hate this game, or one particular part of it (*coughnavicough*), post your thoughts.

And above all, give thanks to Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma, both of whom made this title possible.

I think OoT is worth celebrating. It was like the Portal of the 90's.
I have never met anyone who didn't like either game, and that's because they were both fantastic.
Sure, OoT has lost some of its luster, but it was a good. A good in Nintendo's repitoire, a good in the gaming industry, and a good of the 90's media.

More importantly, if its something that brought us joy and can bring us more joy now, why try and shoot positivity down?

I remember that game. 10 Years ago? 10 long years ago that I developed a deep, unforgiving hate for temples that are built underwater. I hated the damn water temple! The rest of the game was golden, but that damn temple!

Ugh. I feel old. Half-Life's anniversary happened not too long ago. 1998 was a good year for gaming.

As for Ocarina itself, that game was completely amazing the first time through. I haven't played it in about 6 years though, maybe its time to give it a spin again. I doubt it will have held up as well as my memory has it, but hopefully it will still be fun.

I remember when I first played it. It was only 2 years ago when we got a N64 for cheap. I played it for an hour, maybe a bit more, before I scratched my head, thought "What the fuck is all the fuss about then?" and went back to playing Conker.

It really sucks that you missed out on Ocarina of Time when it first came out. Back then, the game was truly epic. There was nothing else like it out there. By today's standards, OoT is dated, but still fun for those who first experienced it back in 1998.

I agree, but I think the ten year anniversary passed A LONG time ago

Besides, I'm not a huge fan of Zelda

Maybe I'm weird, but it has always been kind of "meh" to me

I'll take Metroid or Mario over it any day

The first thing I thought of when I played Ocarina of Time. Yes, I remember my first time on Hyrule Field.

"Wow, this place is gigantic! I could run around here for days! Oh hey, that must be Hyrule Castle over there. I'll just run over there and get inside to do my...oh hey, the gate closed! Guess they're closed for the night. Do I have to wait until morning? Lame. What am I going to do for...wait, what's that over there? OH GOD! ZOMBIES! AHHH!"

Good times.

Ah the memories.

Funny in those 10 years we've yet to get a game that can again capture the true essence and epicness of games that Ocarina of Time did.

What if I don't like OoT or Portal?
Well, then you'd be the only person I've ever made aquaintence with who didn't.

Jesus, I really feel old now. Like it wasn't bad enough celebrating Half-Life's decade, now Ocarina of Time? Ugh.

And seeing people say they were only 4 when it came out? That doesn't help.

I wasn't making a joke. It was about him being 4 then, not him being 14/15 now. There's nothing kiddy about 14, I'm only 21 I can remember being 14 and I wasn't a total dumbass either.

I know. How old was I...
Oh, goodness. I was a child, too, then! Older than them, granted, but...
That just breaks my brain.
