Well I'm to patriotic to not bring this up and I didn't see any such threads on the almighty searchbar, so Happy Freakin Australia Day!

A day when Australians of every colour and creed come together bearing the flag or wearing the green and gold to eat lamb and drink beer. Any Aussies out there willing o share plans or Australia day moments? I'm just killing time till a barbecue this afternoon. Any escapists from other countries wanna talk about national days?

I'm not what you would call particularly patriotic but hey an event is an event so I get involved. That said I get the funny feeling this Australia day for me will be squandered on doing various nerdy things.

Squandered? On nerdy things? Is that possible?

It's just like any other day when you have a Barbecue.

For me I'm just doing what I had planned to do today anyway independent of having the day off or not.

Oh and I don't think we need to wave a flag to remember where we are, I know I'm in Australia, I don't need to have a flag tell me.

Alright, I'll pay that.

Still its a public holiday, and I'll take any excuse for a public holiday.

Australians all let us rejoice for we are young and free. We've golden soil and wealth for toil, our home is girt by sea. Our land abounds in nature's gifts, of beauty rich and rare. In history's page let every stage, Advance Australia Fair!

To a fine country and its people, I raise my glass in an excuse to drink!

Wow... Officially the dumbest holiday ever.
For starters, I'm sure we could find a dumber holiday.

Second, who gives a fuck? Its a public holiday and one traditionally associated with sport, meat and drinking! Its a fucking fantastic holiday.

Well that's what I mean mate, It's just like any other public holiday, just like New Year, Labour Day, Easter, Queen's Birthday, Christmas, Boxing Day.

The only holiday I will celebrate the day in a special way which isn't just a public holiday to me is Anzac Day. My grandfather fought in WW2, and WW2 to me was the only justifiable war because Germany did have the power to take over Europe. Also my father is German so it's funny in that sense because he hated what Nazi's did to Germany and fled to Australia to escape facism.

I'm sitting here listening to the hottest 100 till about 1, then I'm gonna head to some mates for lunch, then about 4 I'm gonna leave for Brisbane to spend the night with my lady and her friends.

My best Australia Day was in 07. Spend the morning and most of the afternoon filming some Backyard Wrestling shows with the hottest 100 in the background, then went to my friends place, has a bbq and a massive party. And Silverchair didn't win the hottest 100 =D

Okay, but ANZAC day is a whole other kettle of fish. I know exactly what you mean but. ANZAC day is a day when we remember the fact that Australia has actually done some incredible things. I remember my family who have bled for this country and the Aussies who have bled for my family. Its a day of pride and remembrance.

Australia day is just a celebration, but its a good one so you may as well enjoy it.

I'm not that patriotic, but it is not that stupid a holiday. I like Australia, I'm glad to be here (despite wanky laws) and it's nice to appreciate the good stuff about our country in the middle of nowhere. Most countries seem to have a day like this, so people need to stop being so negative.

Happy Australia Day, people. I've just finished stuffing myself full of sausages, potato salad and bread. Now for a cup of tea and a lamington~
