So yeah i have been following microsoft rewards for some time now and I just received a -congratulatory-? mail saying they were giving me the fantastic award of 20 Points.

I mean... thats... why...

Couldn't they at least give me a free game download even if its the shittiest xbla game they can find?

Am I asking for too much?

Also. First post yay.

It's the thought that counts, I guess?

It'd be nice if they gave more, sure... but it's not like they're going to give out anything with significant value, because that would add up real fast considering the number of people they'd be giving it out to.

EDIT:
Also, welcome to the Escapist forums!

That means if you keep paying them for 40 more years you could get a cheap Xbox live arcade game for 800 MSP! Imagine if you kept paying them for 80 years, you would have saved $20 in 80 years!

OT: Whatever, not a big deal, they shouldn't even bother if it is that measly though.

Well yea... i guess if theres too many players it would be expensive, but in the long run if they gave at least half a game (400 ms points or maybe even 200) it would make me want to buy extra points to get the game or something (win-win?)

Thank btw ;)

OK, since I'm lost here, what are 20 points approximately worth? I gather it's not much, but I wander how "not much" exactly is that.

Ah, well then, I thought it was less than a cent. So that's orders of magnitude more than I expected. You should feel honoured in their generousity! They probably gave out close to...like 1000 dollars in total. Or something. Closer estimate is actually 4 000 000, which is actually impressive when you say it like that. Less so when it's distributed around, though.

Oh how kind of them, not even enough to buy a little thing for your avatar or something. Also, welcome to The Escapist!

I suppose that's possible.

Different product, I know... but does anyone here remember the soda Surge? Back when that product launched, grocery stores in my area gave away bottles of it, completely free, to all customers. They didn't even have to be paying customers. If I hadn't gotten it for free to try, it's unlikely that I would have gotten particularly attached to it and bought more of it since I probably would have just kept buying Mountain Dew.

Granted... Surge doesn't really exist here in the U.S. anymore... but I was under the impression that it had more to do with consumer groups complaining about the caffeine content rather than due to poor sales.

But I can see giving out some free goodies to hook someone can potentially work. So I guess I'll withdraw my statement from the first post I made.

But it was free, and therefore it is the greatest thing in the history of video games and completely immune to criticism. You are all obviously entitled.

Hey! Birthday month buddies! I received the same e-mail.
I thought it was funny that they literally said "Happy Birthday Month". They couldn't even bother to have the e-mail get sent my actual birthday. :p

You can call me entitled, but I legitimately thought that by gift that has a retail value of 25 cents I thought they meant an in-game birthday hat for my avatar. I was actually slightly disappointed that they didn't go down that route.

Scratch that. Immensely disappointed.

Whatever, I rarely use my 360 anyway. It was just a strange thing for them to do. I mean I'm pretty sure that you literally can't do anything with 20MSP alone.

Unfortunately, the thought counts in this process is the one that goes - "Hey, let's give everyone a totally useless amount of points so that they'll have to spend money to buy more points and make the points we gave them useful."

Yeah, i'd rather they go fuck themselves tbh.

Hmmm... Dumb question but can you mess with the calender on the Xbox 360 so every day is your birthday?
It would be pretty funny, but being only once a month it would be much of an effort... who wants free stuff anyways.

Double snip.

Haha Happy birthday month! yea I laughed a little inside too, the animation was like omg its a present box... its opening! then it opens and you think, a cap or something but instead its a card with words "happy month, f* you".

And I thought the same at the 20 points, well, at least they didnt say "you get 20 points on your next purchase" which they could have done if they were total douchies.

Standard marketing bollocks, "have this super duper free coupon, [small]that can be used next time you put down gobs of money[/small]".

And it costs MS didly squat to give those points away.
