I'll say Far Cry 2.

It's certainly not the hardest game, but the learning curve is a *****.

Obviously Ninja Gaiden (the first one on the xbox, number 2 was easy)

Dead or Alive 4, there were several times I wanted to kill the final enemy of the story mode (Alpha something-or-other)

Contra, Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, Megaman and Ninja Gaiden (the ones on the NES. The 3D games are easy compared to these). I think that's it.

Final Fantasy Tactics

I found Final Fantasy Tactics exceedingly easy, especially towards the end (Velius is the only possible exception I can think of).

Far Cry was a *****.
Grim Fandango.
I think Diablo II was often overly hard if you were certain classes; especially because you couldn't save so if you died you went back to town with no gear and had to retrieve it from a lair filled a billion million monsters ready to devour your equipmentless ass.

Megaman 9 - oh god. My friend and I downloaded it off PSN, couldn't get anywhere near the 1st boss.
Mario Galaxy - have you tried getting all 120 stars? Toy Time galaxy purple coins: 50+ times to beat.
