Hard Hitting Viral Video Released Depicts Terrifying Near Future

Released onto Youtube, the video, cryptically labelled "WEB_EU_UK_x264.mov" appears to be, on first glance, a genuine documentary about a current affairs scandal involving the medical augmentation industry and it's monopoly over it's clients.

The company named, Sarif Industries, may spark familiarity in some who have kept appraised on the material in question.

This video itself bears no references to the material in question. It depicts a chilling future, with human beings augmenting perfectly capable bodies in order to "improve" themselves and keep ahead of the game. A father with a prosthetic arm plays catch with his son, a traveller uses artificial iris implants to capture photographs of his sight and send them to a friend.

All seemingly beneficial, until it is noted that all augmentation users are dependent on an anti-rejection drug manufactured by Sarif Industries. This addictive and expensive product is held on monopoly, causing exponentially increasing prices to ever poorer clients. Homeless businessmen, previously successful careers taken to tatters and peoples' very lives endangered by the augmentations sought to improve their lives. Riots ensue as people struggle to resume their lives as they once knew without ties that bind them to the financial burden of augmentation.

This is, of course, viral marketing of the subtle kind for a very different product altogether. One that many people on this site know well. I won't spoil it for you, if you don't know; simply revel in the production values of this spectacularly cutting documentary and wait for someone to spoil it in the comments below.

So basically it's a cross between Robots and Gattaca. When's it coming out?

Seriously. That looks exactly like a movie trailer to me. I swear that woman at 1:06 sounds like Mila Kunis. Are you genuinely concerned about this? If so I'm impressed. The ones who put this trailer together did a good job.

That's a trailer for the new Deus Ex, right?
I think I'll start worrying once augmentations come into reality.

Hasn't this whole "future with monopoly companies" concept been done before. A lot?

Seems kind of redundant at this point.

Well, there are two responses I would like to make:
1) Hurray for Augmentation! When can we start?
2) OMFG I WANT EET!!! Deus Ex is looking amazing, I can't wait to play it.

Deus Ex is cyberpunk [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CyberPunk]. A massive company is pretty much core to that.

yeah, this is the trailer for the deus ex game...

I doubt it has any warning to give us except "buy the game, or you will not have as much fun as you could!"

Aye, but it's less about the warning and more about getting under peoples' skins and making them remember what they saw. Marketing 101.

Nifty stuff, but I can't help but think of 'Repo! A Genetic Opera', with Zydrate and Paris Hilton's face falling off. Only without the musical numbers and black humor, of course.

Blast it, now I want to see what they'll do with this.

I incredibly boring walk through I saw on Gamespot really hurt my hype for this game. Freedom is good but difficulty is needed also imo.

It's disappointing when the marketing department releases a better product than the one it's marketing. Or is marketing a part of the game now?

Either way, I love this video. Which doesn't raise my hopes for the game. The last time Deus Ex met console development out came the disfigured abomination called DX:IW, gave out a shriek, curled up and died. Even the thriving modding community effectively erased this traumatic memory from existence by not releasing a single decent mod for this - and as anybody who played TNM knows, that's an argument.

I've exhausted my credit of trust. Credit goes to their marketing department where it's due - developers like GSC could learn a lot from them.

that looks really cool... its nearly a shame that the finished game is going to be nothing like that...
can they make a district 9/daybreakers like film from this instead?

...Yikes. Suddenly, cyborg limbs don't sound so good anymore...

I love viral marketing videos, especially the ones that challenge your sense of reality. I'm gonna see if I can find a few more...

Why do I have the distinct and horrible feeling the game won't be as engaging and intersting as that 3 mins video....

Its a terrible trailer.

Mind you, I suppose they've got to drop a clanger considering how massively hard the others for Human Revolution have gotten me. I've been pissing at right-angles for weeks!

Because you haven't read any previews or seen the reactions to the leaked build, I'm guessing.

It's a moderately good trailer, in that most trailers tend to utterly suck on what you'd call an artistic level.

But, all that stuff has been done before, and done better by other people.

It's an official trailer... Posted on this very website... [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/trailers/3755-Deus-Ex-Human-Revolution-Purity-First]

It's not exactly viral promotion...
