As some of you might know ex People Can Fly and some guys from CDProjekt RED made this new FPS game for PCs, rooted in the oldschool shooters of good old days with no regenerating health nonsense in cyberpunk setting.

It was just announced not long ago and apparently will come out pretty soon (plans were for September this year).

Recently GiantBomb did a very nice impressions vid at http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-hard-reset/17-4731/

I must say i'm really looking forward to it, as it breaks the recent scheme of "generic shooters" with bringing back some of the old school feel along with some new ideas. We have secrets, loads of shooting stuff, and while only 2 base weapons are available they are upgradeable into several sub-weapons, each working differently. Alos, the way in game UIs work is amazing from what i can see.
So, fellow Escapists, does it has a chance to make an impact...or will it be buried underneath the current era's CoD/Halo style games?

It looks painfully shallow and generic to me.

Strafe strafe, bang bang, snore snore.

Well it's a little better then the standard modern shooter, but it doesn't seem to have anything that would make it really stand out, can't see any Painkiller magic in there.
And while there is no regenerating health there are regenerating shields, so we're back to hiding and not playing the game being an important part of the game... for a fast paced shooter this is silly.

I will be trying the final product for sure, but they need to do more stuff for this to make a dent in the market.

I don't think the regenerating shield will be an issue, it seems that hard hits go through shield anyway, plus since monsters drop the the health jelly beans known form DMC the whole hiding behind corner would be pretty non optimal nor not really effective way of playing.

As for the depth of gameplay, i do wonder how it will play out with integrating the story into it, obviously the press demos that various zines got are limited so there might be bit more to it. Probably on higher difficulty setting the action is faster paced.
My concerns are mostly about the variety of enemies. i hope that they manage to put some really distinguishable robot types there.

For now I'm going to keep this on my radar but wait for it to drop below 20 bucks in price.

Looks good enough to buy, but not good enough for full-price. Though seeing how many shooters I buy that puts this far above most of them.

Depending on the reviews I may change my mind though.

Don't think they should be compared. Aside from the cyberpunk theme, they're two fundamentally different games; it would be like comparing Fallout 3 to Rage, which is a la mode, apparently.

I watched a gameplay vid for Hard Reset -- looked like wicked fun and I'll be keeping my eye on it.

Eh, it looks kinda shit. The enemies don't look very satisfying to kill, which is important for these types of games. On top of that, neither of the weapons seemed very fun to use.

The menu was pretty bitchin, though.

Well, DE:HR is an action RPG whereas HR is a straight up, old-school style FPS.

Pretty big difference :)

I guess so (looking at it now, those menus are awsom!)

anyway I would hope this game does well, as a PC specific developer is somthign I think we need thease days

and you never know..Im sure PC gamers are itching for a little exclusivity

I see nothing wrong with some old school balls to the wall you just turned 30 dudes into paste on game. After all the "cod clones" that hit the shelves in recent times it can only be good. unless ofcourse the game its self is terrible but given its creators i find that hard to believe. so best of luck to them i say!

Well i cant complain that theyre going after CoD's crown.

But it comes out in the same timeframe as Serious Sam 3...

Well ill reserve the right to buy it until a later date and wish it the best, unless it truly is astounding then ill bump it up my buy list.
