I found Mass Effect bloody hard for a while.
Then i figured out that the combat required tactics instead of my usual rambo-style fighting...

Really? I was breezing through it on the hardest difficulty. But then again, I AM pretty awesome.

(Joking. Kind of.)

OT: the new Turok was pretty hard, especially in the level that was full of raptors, had no lighting, and was pretty much a maze to begin with.
That was the last level I played of Turok. Didn't much care for the game, and that level just made me decide it wasn't worth playing

I Want To Be The Guy is perhaps the hardest game I have ever played. And I have beaten Battletoads on NES and Gameboy.

(Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman: What did I do to Deserve This?) is by far the most punishing game when it comes to difficulty, because when you lose, you have no choice but to start it over from the beginning

Battletoads was impossible.
This. A MILLION TIMES THIS.

Battletoads in Battlemaniacs was easy up until the third level. Unless you knew exactly when and where to jump/dodge/move properly you were fucked. I have only finished it once and that's because I used an emulator and just saved/loaded state about ten thousand times.

BATTLETOADS IS THE HARDEST GAME IN THE UNIVERSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

The Myst pc games. I don't know if anyone's heard of them but they were these strange adventure/puzzle games. They were so awesome but incredibly hard. I couldn't beat the game without the strategy guide telling me what to do, every step of the way.

It's not as hard as it looks, it looks impossible, but your hitbox is a tiny dot.

Killzone: Liberation. That was a *****. And when I thought "Great, I beat the game!", DLC came out and I couldn't beat it...

Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox was pretty hard until I realized don't stop moving. Then I started to get better.

Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, not the actual gameplay but the fact you have to go through that stupid temple about 7 times, kept me from ever wanting to complete the game.

Seriously though, I would say Ikuraga is damn near impossible. Lots of fun but toward the fourth level, which is like a big boss fight I just cant switch colors and fight and fly well enough. Lots of fun, just too hard for me.

I'm going with Battletoads. I know no one who beat level 3, and I don't even know if there WAS an end boss. There was no hard mode. There was only hoping players didn't kill you.

Add to the thread or get out. If you want to be an ass about the precious search bar feel free, but at least add to the conversation while you are doing it. Also this site has been around for years, hate to tell you but you not going to find a single original idea around here aside from maybe some news articles.

I have played several games that where intentionally broken for artistic reasons. They intended for the games to be impossible to prove some sort of point.

ET was difficult to near impossibility just due to it being horrible, but everyone knows that.

Old NES games where stick it to you, especially if you don't have the manual, hard. To the point that you would have to play them constantly to ever have a shot of beating the game.
Thanks for that, manaman!
Just to mention I DID USE the search feature before posting - and I started it saying "Im aware there's another topic..." Remember?. If you check all the treads some fellow posted here a while ago, none is as specific as I tryed to make mine, even though it didn't work very well (as people keep posting IWBTG when I specifically said not to mention such kind of games, but that's ok). In those threads people just repeat the same thing over and over, DMC 3 on Dante must die and such things. I want to see genuine dificulty, and where/when it is.
Now why do people criticize whithout reading the topic first, that's a mystery to me...

Now, for my games: The hardest, most frustrating ever game was Robocop 2 on NES, because you just had to memorize things over and over ("do it again, stupid"), to the point when on later levels, missiles whould be shot at you from off-screen just to hit you mid-air if you jumped on the "wrong" space! How could anyone tell! Not only that, the dreaded thing would not only kill you, but force you to the beggining of the level! It was worse than death!
THe Gouls and Goblins series are a close second place.

The hardest game I've ever played is Dirge of Cerberus. That's right, laugh. But I play JRPGs and not shooters, even if this one is considered easy. SE were utter bastards by introducting this as a way to continue their most popular FF installment. Not my favourite of the series, but still significant. I will never finish this game because I simply don't have the skills to advance further than I have.
