OK who came up with the idea that Poison Ivy is a gothic chick?

And oh my goodness the sheer and utter cringe of seeing these charcaters break the 4th wall and say the things I have just heard from their mouths :p

Its hard for me to take the Superhero genre seriously the way it is now, I mean yeah I get that this is exactly what they are going for with Harley Quinn but after watching Venom in theaters yesterday, I am starting to feel that Superheroes are just not for me anymore.

Somehow outgrowing cartoons and superhero fanfare doesn't strike me as particularly tragic.
Can we accept the stuff we enjoy as kids doesn't tend to grow up with us and rather stays for kids, shifting approach according to the fads and demographic appeal of their time?

There's just a point where you gotta face the fact that you're not the target audience for something.

Is this for kids though?

And besides that, eventhough I probably won't sit through Batman: The Animated Series again as an adult, I can look up clips and recognize the quality it still has. Mainly because animation back then still had craftmanship to it, but probably also because we weren't flooded with 4th wall breaking geek humor.

I'm sorry is the argument here "how dare this clown try to be funny"?
It less to do with her being a clown and more to do with what she is actually saying here, and Poison Ivy acting like a Goth chick.

I mean I get Harley is a clown and is supposed to be funny, but her spouting these 4th wall breaking jokes and references ala Deadpool feels insincere.

I'd say Ivy is more apathetic, than acting like a stereotypical goth chick. Honestly Sam, I don't see the big deal. It's just a teaser. Harley has broken the 4th wall some of the time in the comics. The Joker has done it plenty of times too. Maybe to not Deadpool levels, but so what? If you don't want to watch the movie, don't. No one is pointing a gun to the back of your skull. This looks more interesting the adaption of the Killing Joke or the live-action Suicide Squad movie. And as for the Venom movie; it's so bad it's good category. My older brother actually, genuinely, enjoyed the movie, but that is expected from him.

Its just how I see the state of Superhero stuff in general these days and this teaser is a symptom of what the masses demand for Superheroes to be like. I will never get something as serious and with in-universe integrety as the Nolan movies or Watchmen or V for Vendetta. In this current superhero cinema climate I doubt I will even see anything as dramatic Kingdom Come or anything as grim as Arkham, A Serious House on Serious Earth, because sadly Humor, Fun, and Action takes precedent.

I just saw Venom and I am just shocked at how "Un-Venom" the charcater was as far as I know. Like lets just say I have no idea how the character is gonna be a badguy to Spiderman once to two meet considring the exact portrayal of the charcater I just witnessed. Its hard for me to see Tom Hardy doing evil asshole things to Tom Holland in this same universe. Like I am starting to almost get why people wanted Venom to be R-Rated for one.

I would not mind a movie adaption of Kingdom Come, live-action or animated. For the current state of superhero movies and shows, they still have their serious moments. Maybe not to levels of the Crow, The Dark Knight Trilogy, or V For Vendetta. While I don't mind serious superhero story, I hate dark, grim and gritty for the sake of it as well. There is a reason why the comic book crash happened in the 90s. Besides, you will get your serious superhero story in a couple of months with Glass (I know it's not a comic adaption). So there is your dramatic superhero story starting the new year.

The Comic Book Crash of the 90s had nothing to do with comics being dark and gritty, and in all honesty from what I have seen of 90s they look rather campy by today's standards. Like Black Suit Superman with Guns was no Nolan Trilogy or even Man of Steel. If anything its more like Toonami level anime edge, the whole "TO THE EXTREME!!!" kind of thing.

Its more complex then that. The primary factor I remember being the most prominent was this situation where the comic book giants were making all these prestige and premium and limited time only kind of comic books where fans can actually preserve them in an attempt to sell them decades later because of old comic books from the 1940s suddenly being worth millions of dollars. Like Action Comic #1 is worth enough money to feed a starving village and then some. And comic book companies tried to take advantage of that.

I am saying this out of memory though so if you want to know more about that watch Comic Book Superheroes Unmasked:

I'm aware of that too. I should have said part of the reason. Also, there were a whole bunch of companies making number 1's in hoping that their comic(s) would increase in value. They thought wrong. So very wrong.

I don't know, I didn't watch the clip.
Of course more often than not certain media was of a better quality back in the day. But I feel like past a certain age we should be above caring about how children's animation IPs get recycled. If my parents didn't like the stuff that was readily available for me as a kid they just got the good stuff from back in their day (so a lot of Goscinny). It's not that hard.

My only complaint for what she?s saying is that I personally don?t find it that funny really, not that I think the style is particularly out of character for Harley. And how in the world is Ivy a Goth? She doesn?t care much for people sure...but she?s Poison Ivy. Her plans regularly involve genocide of humanity. Of course she doesn?t care about people much!

You know Sam, I?d think you?d have some valid criticism of things if you weren?t so determined to take things right to the other extreme of what you?re complaining about. For some who says they loved Kingdom Come you really seem to have missed the point about being senselessly ?dark? and ?edgy?

Okay, who keeps hiring actresses from the Big Bang Theory to voice Harley?

That aside, yeah, not watching this. The voice acting for Harley was kinda grating and honestly really sick of Harley Quinn at this point.

I don't really care about the children's side of it, but these cartoons are representative of the quality of current animation as a whole, and it just makes me sad. I look at current Duck Tales and I weep at how far animation quality has fallen. So it is too with this clip.

As someone who despises the Batman and Harley movie, I have to say... I don't hate this trailer.

Reading the wiki for this series, it seems they are going for a post-breakup Harley, which I like.
Now, if only they could move this to Brooklyn and add Red Tool, I might actually be hopeful.
