Rockband expands further on their concept and limit it to a smaller release schedule than guitar hero. Activision need to realise that they've beaten the proverbial dead horse of guitar hero long enough. In other words, if you want someone to blame for screwing the entire guitar hero franchise blame Bobby Kotick. GH was good for the first 3 games, then went downhill into shittiness.
Anyway the real winner of the music game sales war between GH and RB will be the first one to successfully license Led Zepplin's "Stairway to Heaven"
You don't think having Freebird AND Bohemian Rhapsody on the same disc is good enough? MADNESS!
Actually, Zeppelin (and I believe more specifically Jimmy Page) has refused to license their songs to any game. He claimed it was because he felt, essentially, that no one should be able to do what he does with a cheap plastic controller. I wonder what he would think about Rock Band's Pro Mode.
I do think the whole "This might be why Guitar Hero failed, but only because I think I'm awesome" quote is kinda dirty, but Rock Band is the superior game in most ways. You can say what you like about the track lists, to be honest there's stuff I like and dislike on each, but really what makes Rock Band is the amazing interface - they've practically perfected it.
The ONLY problem, as mentioned before, is that you can't REALLY score 5 people. If you're playing max players, the vocals don't get scored, which is weak, but it's because of the XBox's limitations of 4 player inputs max. I actually think their choice was wise, because the other two options were: Make the PS3 version different from the XBox version, which would be both extra programming and probably hurt the fans, or: give the singer a score... but don't count it towards their profile or character, which I have a feeling many people would rebel against.
Nevertheless, I am loving it, and though I know it's sort of a bastard entrance, I can't wait to attempt to learn guitar through this.
