So I am a huge Harry Potter fan and always have been. I've liked pretty much every movie (except 6...) and went yesterday to go watch it. Now, I haven't read the books in a while but people are telling me it is very different from the books. So, what was so different? And for discussion value, are you a potter fan or not and explain.

I have yet to see a movie that didn't take liberties with the source material.

Not much of a fan though. Books were alright, but the movies deviated from being corny to melodramatic.

Actually I've heard the oppisite, it's very much like the final book. Close in plot, dark and depressing. For the record the books is well written but lacks the charm that make the others great. I always thought it would make a better movie.

I'm surprised you don't like 6, for fans of the book it's usually the most popular. It's my favourite for me, aside from book and movie 3.

That was what I thought. It all seemed the same to me. But yeah, I liked the 6th book a lot but the movie was 7/8 romance and 1/8 actual action. My favorite though is still 4. I like the tournament and the other wizard schools and such.

There seem to be quite a large number of differences, I believe someone already mentioned the other thread.

As for my level of Harry Potter fanhood, I read the first book, seen the first movie and part of the one with the dragons, and just wasn't impressed, I just couldn't see what the huge deal was with Potter, I mean I like my wizards named Harry, but less British and more kick ass than Rowling's creations

I haven't seen the movie so I couldn't tell you. They probably just cut a lot of stuff out and/or changed things so that it would be more action packed. Hollywood does that.

My level of fanhood? I've really enjoyed the series, even though Harry has his bitchy phase. The writing isn't fantastic but it still is interesting enough to hook me in. I seem to be one of the few who actually really enjoyed the last book.

What I noticed most is the director kept trying to make Ron look like a badass. It's like they were trying to turn him into Bruce Willis or something.

I've liked the Harry Potter series, both the books and the movies. Nothing more, nothing less.
I found them a fun little diversion, but not the second coming of Christ. I'm planning on seeing the 7th movie tomorrow if I have the chance, and I likely will enjoy it, despite the fact that it was my least favorite part of my least favorite book.

To be honest, I'll just be really happy when this surge of Harry Potter excitement is over. It's a good series, deserves a lot of the praise, but as with most things the fandom just really rubs me the wrong way.
