Today I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. It was really good.
The visuals were impressive, the acting was superb, and my dad especially enjoyed the sound design, because he could understand what they were saying.

I've liked Harry Potter on and off for years. My dad read me the books up until five, which we never finished until I picked it up again in 5th grade. I started the Halfblood Prince, but never finished it. Recently, we've been catching up on the movies, which we really enjoy.
Of course, my enjoyment was never to the pint of my sister's obsession with the first couple of books. She actually read the first so many times that my dad tried to get her to read it in Spanish. Right now, I'm going to try to finish Deathly Hallows before the second part of the movie comes out.

That's my history with the series, what's your opinion on the seven-part epic?

Edit: How could I forget this?

It has improved greatly with each installment. The fifth one was a tad dull (except for the epic Dumbledore/Voldermort battle) cause not a whole lot happened. But six and seven part one have been great. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are definitely some of the best actors of our generation. Daniel, not so much, but still good.
I don't remember much of the deathly hallows but there is one part I'm dreading and ecstatic for at the same time.

Five was actually one of my favorites. I liked that nothing happened. The side-plots were fun.
Luna Lovegood is my dad's favorite character, because she's absolutely insane.

Yeah it was good for some more depth to the characters. Hahaha I love luna, she incredibly interesting and her mind wanders lol
But Remus Lupin is the sexiest/most badass teacher ever!

See... agh, you haven't read the last book, so I can't rag on the ending because it will spoil it for you, and I'm not that much of a dick. You might enjoy it, or you might not. Which is... about as vague as one can get, I suppose.
I read the first one when it came out, and then I promptly stopped when I realized that it was going to be a series. Waited for the seventh one to come out, and powered through the entirety of the series in a two-week span. Because I *HATE* leaving stories unfinished. Even when I was six, I'm like "Nope, not having that. Gonna wait until I can read them all in one go." And I might have nearly lost my sanity from sleep deprivation twice, but damn it, it was worth it.

I'm on the fence about Harry Potter. The problem for me is the books came out when I was in gradeschool and they ended somewhere around college. It was a huge gap in time and there was no way in hell that I was going to remember the fine details after such big gaps between book releases. I remember when I chained the first 4 books together it was a really enjoyable read because I was able to notice the small details and remember who was who. But later on as I read the later books I cared less and less for anyone except the main characters. Which is really a shame because apparently some side characters are well rounded enough to be remembered/cared about.
As for the movies, I saw the first, and never really bothered to see the other ones.
Overall it was an ok experience to read Harry Potter, I'm sure if I had the time/patience to reread all the books together I would like it a lot more, but as it stands it a positive meh.

1 is very good
2 is decent
3 is my favourite
4 is crap
5 is crap
6 is crap
7p1 is very good
7p2 will most likely be good.

As for the books
1-4 are excellent
5 was decent but not as good as the original 4.
6 same as 5 really but a bit more interesting.
7 was decent, not as good as the original 4 but better than 5 and 6.

I like it, I've read the books and watch the movies (only once they start passing on tv, though). I don't quite understand the hype about it, but the fans don't bother me (unlike those damn Twitards).
I read the first five in one standing (in the span of a week, I think?), but the wait for the 6th completely dulled my interest and I barely enjoyed it. I liked the 7th quite a lot, though!
As for the movies, it was watching the first that got me interested in the series in the first place. I'm one of those odd ones that really liked the fifth one, I found the sideplots a lot more interesting than the main plot.
I still haven't seen Deathly Hallows, 'm waiting for it to get on tv.

I really enjoyed the fact that Rowling deepened the story in a good pace and made his character grow with the people that enjoyed him at a young age. My growing has been more or less the same as Harry's and all the characters, and as a coming-of-age epic it serves well to make kids read and read good stuff, ergo empowering them to call Twilight for what it is. CRAP.

P.S: If you want to read a STONKING GREAT BOOK about Vampires and like the L4D series, check out "The Strain" by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. The second part just came out and it is AWESOMSAUCE

I found that as a Kid, the Harry Potter books were fantastic, the greatest things ever.

But then I grew up. But because my life is reasonably trouble-free (I must of missed the memo that says: Age 17: Everything must be dark and edgy), I found the ridiculously overblown dark overtones of the last three books to be kind of dull.

Also, the weird mood whiplash at the end of the last book: Chapter 17: Everybody is dead or dying, and things are at their darkest, Chapter 18: Ooops, everything is great and all the characters live babies ever after. Oh look they're kids are all going to school and shit, hooray! THE END.

When I said in my first paragraph that I'm not interested in overblown Dark'n'Edgy, it didn't mean I'm particularly interested in overblown Care Bears shit either.

I recently saw Deathly Hallows part 1 too. I thought it was average. It didn't feel like a whole film. There wasn't enough. Most of the film was just Ron, Harry and Hermione walking around.

There was really only one part of the seventh movie where I didn't think the visual direction was awesome, and that was during the chase scene through the woods with the Snatchers. I really tend to dislike chase scenes, they just make me kind of dizzy with all cuts and angle changes.
