have only ever cried (well was a bit teary) when i played mass effect 2. this was during my first playthrough and at the last stage i lost thane during the battle. it was sad because i had fought so hard to try to keep everyone alive and had grew really fond of him :( bastard collectors...the next playthrough i made damn sure he stayed alive. you're not going to die twice on me *****!!!

but in all seriousness full credit to bioware for making me able to connect to a collection of polygons on such an emotional level. unfortunatly haven't cried (well a bit teary) from a game since. but i think it's only a matter of time before games a really able to create and perform the kind of drama that affects us on such a level.

The first part of Mass Effect 2, where Shepard is able to get Joker to a lifeboat before he gets sucked into the vacuum of space.

Three games made me very close to bawling my eyes out: The good ending for BioShock 1 & 2, and the ending for Fable 3.

To add more to my overly simplistic answer, I have never cried during any video game. There is just something about it being a video game that nullifies any emotion that might come from any moment of sadness.

Games, no.

Movies, almost.

Most recently, Fable III.

When you're moving through the desert, after leaving the blinded Walter behind, and the darkness makes you fight him?

Then again at the end. Gah.
Oh my god, I found both instances so horrible! (well executed though) They were both heart wrenching, creepy and haunting. But in a way, I love them for that.
I was a wreck hours after I beat the game though.

Silent Hill 2; the "Leave" ending. The letter-reading is a bit drawn-out, but after going through the entire experience with James and having the resolution it provided, it was really moving.

All 3 Metal Gear Solid games made me cry...

Other than that, I've come close in a few RPG's and other games but never actually cried.
I'm confused... are you subtly denying the existence of one?
Oh wait, crap, I meant 4 lol. All 4 xD.

right then lets get this one out of the way

anyway, since i couldn't be bothered to list something someone wouldn't even read about or care about

*insert a list of vns and kinetic novels here*

ill just go on with the rest of my list now.

note i didn't cry at these ones, i did to the vns and such, but not to the games, mind you i was very upset at these.

terranigma

you win then you loose everything, that is all

persona 2 innocent sin

You loose..... i wont go into any more details than that incase anyone does play it later but.... you loose

persona 2 eternal punishment

was upset but out of disappointment and earache from the bad dub. tell me when you hear them say its getting bigger in that voice you didnt just say gigity.

there are alot of others, but they have seem to have slipped my mind right now. ill post those later.

Yes. In the pokemon Mystery dungeon series, where you (I guess it should be spoiler but you probably know this already) return to the human world/get erased from time after you had finished the main part of the story, and the first credits start. I think the fact that I knew this beforehand and didn't expect it to be as well written probably helped me in that respect.
Yeah me too, it was the only time i've ever really felt anything for the characters.

Deadliest warrior; deadliest difficulty, i cried out of how pissed i was from the difficulty, but i cried my way through the last 2 battles.

also, the good ending to bioshock 2 didn't make me cry, but my eyes got a bit misty. i put down the controler because the only reason to play through a bioshock a second time is to be an evil bastard, and the good ending made me NOT do that.

Lost Odyssey. Many of the little memories you find had me tearing up. Especially the first one I think, with the little sick girl.
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon. That entire game had me emotional. I never cried but I did choke up.
I think the memories were one of the most memorable part of the game. It really gave you the impact of what it meant to be immortal, not the nice I live forever stuff. The dark and gritty parts of humanity that you will live through.

Like the memory where Kaim is kept in a prison of complete darkness(this one spans about 2-3 memories) and in the end when they are freed a man rushes out into the light only to have his eyesight burned away because he had spent so many years in absolute darkness that his eyes were not use to the light of the sun.

Also this, I've never cried but I've gotten pretty close and this is one of those instances but I apologize for the bad quality

Don't watch this if you have family thats sick.

At least, the ending. Oh dear ^^'
Amazing game, even though the lip synching wasn't really top notch.
Meh. FFX <3

So, this is pretty sappy, but I recall being moved to tears by Zelda: A link to the past. This was a long time ago mind.

In this game, you encounter a boy in the 'dark world' who just wants to play his flute again. Sadly, the dark world has mutated him so he cannot anymore, so he asks you to play it for him. Doing so causes him to become at peace, and he slowly melds into the tree stump he's standing on as he listens to you play.

I know it was a small thing, but something hit a chord with me. Just giving that little boy a taste of the music for one last...time in his... life oh god, there I go again :*(

I didn't cry but my heart broke in Mass Effect 2 on my first playthrough of the finally and I made a choice that cost not only a member of the crew but my favourite one.

OP: Can we have an edit to say this topic will have spoilers?

SPOILS A PLENTY

On my first play through of ME2 I went straight down the middle, avoiding anything paragon or renegade choices I could and that meant letting Tali get exiled from the migrant fleet which made me feel like a dick but during the collector base run I sent her through the steam vent as my hacker and Samara to lead the fire team. It was literally a heart wrench when I saw her take the hit. Miranda also died later but she is a *****.
Yeah same for me, only with Grunt. I couldn't believe it... the perfect example of kroganhood, taken down by a single shot? After all those battles, after everything we did, the shining future for that race snuffed out by a single shot?

And you don't want to go back and change your decisions, because that's just your particular Mass Effect story.
I had a freak out moment when Garrus got shot in the gut, but kept going. I got freakishly lucky on my first playthrough and nobody actually died... but damn did watching Garrus get shot give me a heart attack.

OT: Beyond a few sniffles now and again, the only time I cried from a game was after finishing Mass Effect 2 two days after it came out and realizing that the damn game was over, and I couldn't interact with the wonderful characters anymore. It was so good that seeing it end really sucked.
