Has anyone else ever wondered what the people they speak to online look like?

I wonder what they look like but I tend to find their avatars in my mind most prominently. It actually sucks when people change their avatar in my mind, since suddenly Ihave to remember a whole new thing for them. On the other hand, as a sign of customization it is the most prominent one you can have on a site.

I used something from a cartoon I drew once, if I change it I'll probably do the same again.

(For your un-demanded information, it is a pet Cigarette)

No, not really. The only time I think about what people look like is if I've spent a lot of time talking to them - especially if I've gotten the chance to talk to them on the phone. Otherwise I don't think about it at all and usually just associate a person's avatar as an extension of their personality.

What Pedro said. For instance, I see you as a zero punctuation imp...one of the many zero punctuation imps...

I usually picture the people I see based on their avatar, since most people tend to pick an avatar that represents them, or something that they like.

I picture everyone online as the gimp from Pulp Fiction.

That way nothing you can ever say, do or be suprises me.

Aha, I wish I found it as easy as everyone else. I'm far too curious about people, in general.

My avatar is not so off from how I look. My hair's not that dark though.
I do wonder sometimes what they look like.

In just general forum discussion I perceive it all to be just a big seething mass of words coming from different imagined voices, generally something that feels like it would suit your avatar.

But in say an RP for example, I always imagine the persons character as its describe in their bio.

On a community as large as this one, I don't tend to talk to specific people enough, but on smaller forums, over XBL or msn I'll find myself conjuring up images of people so I can identify them and tell them apart.

Just to make things clear, I am not a female imp from another world.

My image depends on who the poster is, and if I've seen the poster's actual face. I know of one person who I always gave a generic voice to whenever I read his posts, and then I watched a video where he narrates. Now everytime I read his posts, I hear and see him in my head.

We had a very long picture thread, but that ended up going awkward, and was locked.

I imagine ppl I disagree with being ugly n ppl I agree with being mirror images of myself. I then look in a mirror, go all Narcissus (minus the drowning) & am happy :-D
