So, I haven't been able to pick it up yet but has anyone hear played Nier? Any thoughts on it? Recommend it, yes or no?

It looks awesome and the atmospheres and look reminds me a lot of Drakengard (an amazing series and if you haven't played it, you should).
The only review I've really seen so far is from GameSpot who gave it a 5 buuuut I've learned not to listen to their reviews but 98% of the time, I never agree with them. So, I'm asking you guys. Because your opinions reflect the truth a little more (well, mostly).

Reading all the reviews...and a few user reviews, too.

Starts off kinda slow. Picks up quickly. Solid game overall. A little too enthusiastic with its adult language.

it was awesome, good soundtrack, good voice acting, good script, good story, good characters, the combat got a little repetitive but that was it, otherwise great game, and it was made by the guys who made drakengard

It looks really good, although I don't really agree with the changes they made to the American character art. While I have nothing against a masculine protagonist, it seems a bit pathetic to make the protagonist look normal in the Japanese edition and try to turn him into a ripped muscle-man with the features of a shaved bear specifically for the foreign audience.

Aside from the xenophobia, it looks like a solid action game that is thankfully not ripping off God Of War. While it got a bad score from Gamespot, I never trust their scores and will probably buy it once I get back from College and have the cash.

I'll be staying faar from Nier.

In part because (a)I've never heard of it and (b) it isn't a PC game.

I was actually surprised that they got away with it. o_O I dunno if you've heard this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0SghitCOLI) or not, but I'm honestly shocked that this actually went through. I dunno, I know plenty of games have cussing in it, but apparently, this character talks like this the whole way through. Yikes.

Apparently, there's a reference to it too which I love. :D But yeah, I'm happy to see them making a new game. ^_^ A Drakengard 3 would be better but beggars can't be choosers, I guess. :/

That actually annoyed me that they did that. D: I personally thought Nier Replicant (the Japanese only one) looked more interesting. If anything, I wish they would've released both here or picked only one and then scrapped the other one. I mean, Nier Gestalt looks too, but Replicant looked better.

A little too enthusiastic with it's adult language, eh? I will eventually buy/rent it, but there are a handful of other games above Nier on my list-o-games-to-play.

Interesting that they originally intended the protagonist to be masculine, and hairy...n'stuff. I think I would have preferred the skinny anime teen guy though.
