Has Steampunk ever been executed succesfully?

As mentioned, Arcanum. I wish I knew what I did with it, it was a good game, and did the steampunk thing really well. I made a 6 shot rifle with a hunting rifle and a revolver cylinder...and thats just one example of the stuff you could do in that game.

One of the only things I can recall that I think was prominent steampunk was Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow but that film sucked balls.

What I mean is that I've seen a bit of steampunk in games, films, TV shows, and the like. But I don't think I've ever seen it done well. Bioshock didn't come close.

Same with Cyberpunk to a lesser extent, but I've seen this done okay, just not great. Deus Ex wasn't my favorite.

I am currently watching Last Exile. It's holding my interest.

First of all; Bioshock was NOT steam punk. There was NO steam power in Bioshock. It was not even designed with Victorian architecture in mind. It was an ART DECO game.

Next, if you want to read good Steam Punk literature, pick up some Jules Verne or H.G. Wells.

Get back to the basics.

I agree. Bioshock was a good game with a great atmosphere, but it wasn't too steampunk. Steampunk is Victorian clothing with clockwork-style machines (most of which wouldn't work in real life). Most things that are steampunk break one of the important rules for it.

The only thing about Steamboy that bothered me was the absolute disregard for physics. I love the flying machines, tanks and other crazy do-dads, but steam that never condenses, steam that turns to ice??? Absolute garbage says I!

Steambot Chronicles does a good job with steampunk. And I agree with the calls for Edge of Twilight.

Steampunk is essentially where Steam-power is still widely used in a more modern setting. In other words, It's like they never discovered petroleum.

What I mean is the concept is interesting, But I haven't seen or played something where the concept is done well.

I don't know how many times I've put this trailer up on this site. It still puzzles me why it seems to be only me that's hyped for this game.

Seems interesting. Im not exactly excited, but I'll definetly give this game a look, and maybe read a review.

There was a steampunk-esque world in Prime 3, where the robots and such were all cog designed and runned on steam.

I don't know about steam punk, but read Snowcrash if you want cyberpunk.

Or William Gibson's Neuromancer, since the advent of cyberpunk is largely attributed to Gibson.
