Has the Nostalgia Critic jumped the shark?

Nope, I genuinely enjoy all of NC's videos, present and past. He definitely hasn't jumped the shark is easily the most entertaining thing on TGWTG.

The pearl harbor one had some funny bits, but yes, the cutaways were kind of annoying. Still, it was okay in my book. The Odd Life of Timothy Green was really funny to me, made me laugh a lot and there was a constant smile on my face.

yeah... his critic shows have become boring, and i havent see a single demo reel because it lacks on the advertise department on his site(ie none at all)
Same here, I didn't even know about demo reel until this thread. The biggest problem with TGWTG is the site's design. Everything is buried under menus with nothing but text to indicate what anything actually is.

I think the complete opposite actually. I used to kinda like him (I agree with the OP, hit and miss, and god damn do I hate his self referential in jokes) and after 4-5 consecutive episodes of not so much as a chuckle I stopped watching them. He caught my attention again by quitting and re emerging. Out of morbid curiosity I watched him and post comeback he's marginally upped the professionalism of his production. I think he was worst in the few months before he "quit."

I loved the whole idea of why Bay makes characters like he does. 'Don't confirm to the white stereotype man' =D

I still enjoy the guys work, and I watch them. They aren't nearly as interesting to me as Lindsay Ellis's Nostalgia Chick, nor do I find them as creative as Linkara's AT4W.

What I saw of Demo Reel.... I didn't get. A sitcom or something? It's like he set out to be all artsy and use his talents, but apply the same format that he did for the Critic and it just didn't work for me. I think Doug and his brother could potentially create a great feature film, the anniversary movies prove that, but so long as they stick to this medium it kind of owns them.

The fact she constantly kept playing with her hair was a nice gag.
It made an uncomfortable amount of sense to me, but that's just because I'm a bit too familiar with crappy exploitation films ("original schlock"...think of stuff done by Troma Entertainment, and you're on the right track1).

He is trying to justify spending a shit ton of cash on the failure that was Demo Reel. Hence giving the people he hired extended sequences so that they don't lose their income and he doesn't totally concede that the show was a disaster.
^One of the things I was gonna say.

I tried to watch his Pearl Harbor review, but he spent the first few minutes trying to be funny and failing miserably. I spared myself more pain and quit watching before the actual review even began.

When I watch a review, I want to watch a review - Don't waste my time with unnecessary gag intros.
My feelings exactly. I so badly want someone to take his new reviews, cut out all those dragging unfunny sketches/storyline and upload it to Youtube. Now those, I'd rewatch a bunch.

(although I do do not know why he thought Pearl Harbour was a commercial failure, but the joke still works).
No it doesn't. The whole joke revolves around how Pearl Harbor was such a commercial flop, which it wasn't. That'd be like me making a joke where it's 'funny' because "that's a thing you do!", but 'that thing you do', you don't.

He is, however, a pretty bad director.

The only reason I'm still checking in on TGWTG is for NChick, Renegade Cut, and CR.
Pshaw. Todd in the Shadows for life, son!
Yeah well, you know... I guess. If you're into the whole "mask" thing. *snub snub*
How could you not be? He's so mysterious and edgy!

Rap critic's the best reviewer on the site, and no-one ever seems to mention him, so this is me sticking up for him.
I don't actually dislike him, but I've only ever seen him in his crossover videos with Todd, where he was by far the less funny of the two. I've never gone trawling through the various contributors either, because the ratio of absolute dreck to actually amusing videos on TGWTG is pretty high. Most of the reviewers I've seen have been either boring, too invested in stupid "characters", or just review things (like anime) that I have no interest in.

For me, Rap Critic gets a hearty cry of "meh" and a shrug - what I've seen wasn't too bad, but it wasn't enough to send me racing off to look for more either.

Well okay, 'the joke subjectively worked for me' then =D because I still found it funny and I knew he was wrong. It was a sketch I found it easy to treat and enjoy it as fantasy

have you ever checked out oancitizen? he does artsy films....and because I'm unfamilar with them he makes it fun to learn about the bizare world of avande garde films I'd recomend him

however I'm not sure if he's quit or not, he hasnt done anything in a long time

also dont watch his Meloncholia reveiw as a first reveiw.....its...kind of heavy

oh and obligatory "Nchick is the best ever go check her out"

OH OH! his corssover with Nchick doing "freddy got fingered" is good...good intro to him as well (how I discovered him...the site is so poorley designed)

I know of him, but I haven't watched much of his stuff.

Lindsey is one of the few I do watch, though honestly my interest has slacked off. Lately it's just seemed to be getting less fun, and her reviews have started to drag for me. I did like when she and Todd had a running series of crossovers, but since that's stopped I assume the two of them broke up.

Tell me about it, the menus-within-menus system is horrible and the front page is just confusing. You'd think that with the money Doug is (presumably) making from all the adverts, he could afford to pay someone to design a less horrible website.

I'm a sucker for that kind of analysis..I I find her aproahch to humour 10x more subtle and 10x more funny than doug ever was

thats just me though

its also nice to have a female talk about thease kinds of things (and from the fmeale perspective) I just love what she does and I think my apreciation for her stuff goes beyond "funny internet video I watch now and again" to "favorite series ever"

Ive said this before but hte problem is it just DOES NOT promote other reviewers...if anything its confusing and a turn off...especially with the questionable quality of alot of it...

mabye everyone wouldn't have to rise the coattails of NC if they had the potential viewers that were put off by the site design alone....it may not be much but still

After Walker initially announced he was ending the "Nostalgia Critic", I was slightly disappointed because I had only recently become aware of the site back then and after branching out I found a LOT of content on there I did like such as the Cinema Snob, Brows Held High, Bad Movie Beatdown, and a few others.

Then came the announcement of his return and I was cautiously optimistic.

Since then I've still enjoyed each of the reviews overall. I do think some of the longer sketches draw away from the criticism and are much more hit and miss than his more simple one line jokes, but it's fresh, entertaining, and decent enough overall for me to say that I think he's far from "jumping the shark".
