My tradition is always returning to what is in my opinion one of the best games ever made, Baldur's Gate 2. It's so, so old and yet every time I have a fiddle around with it again I either discover something new or rediscover something I'd forgotten was in there and almost always end up pleasantly suprised. In fact, I might go play that again right now...
This. It got "worse" when I discovered widescreen mod. The game suddenly became pretty again!
And some of the fanmade NPC mods are insanely good and fit right in, making for even more "MUST PLAY THROUGH AGAIN".

I just started with Dwarf Fortress, otherwise I'd be installing BG2 right now.

When I play CoD4 with friends (i.e. when I play it at all), I always make it a top priority to go for sneaky knife kills.
They still won't call me Batman, but I know they fear me just as much.

I used to listen to Ozzy Osbourne religiously when playing Counterstrike during LAN parties.

It's a semi-regular tradition of mine that I play through OoT up to the water temple, get stuck, turn off the N64, come back to it ages later and decide to start the game over again because I'm sick of being stuck in the water temple.

(One day I shall beat that flipping death trap maze of a level...)

Oh, another tradition is when I get a new game I watch the whole pre-loading screen cut scene the first time I turn it on. I'm sure load of people do that but it's something I like to do.

And starting RIGHT NOW, I'm going to initiate all new gamer friends by making them play "Bible Adventures."

Yeah, I went there.
I will never be your gamer friend.

OT: Every month; me and three others get a pair of xbox 360s; two Halo CDs (It's moved to the ODST multiplayer disc) and just do forge for a day. It's gonna be forgeworld on Halo: Reach starting this month!

I've always enjoyed playing Shenmue 1 around christmas time. The atmosphere in it really does put you in the christmas mood, and also it was around that time when I first played the game.

When a new LEGO game comes out, I have a tendency to play through it to 100% as quickly as I can (with work getting in the way, this is more difficult than it seems).

I actually developed a trick for the water temple when I was a kid. I don't get stuck anymore...but my problem was always finding the last key.

OT: The only tradition I have, is when I beat a game, I watch the credits. Every time.

I use a week's worth of my work vacation each year for an ambitious gaming project---a Paradox 900, a decade's worth of seasons in a sports game, building an entire SimCity 4 subregion, that sort of thing. I'll withdraw to my cave and not let anyone in---turn off the phone, disconnect the Internet connection, whole nine yards.

Of course, now that I'm back in college that goes by the more traditional name of "spring break".

I always name my character 'Crash', which meant that I got to call my ATV in Pure the 'Crashwaggon'
I always start up a new playthrough of FFIX a few days before decorating the house for Xmas. I absolutely love decorating the house and the tree etc. so I feel it's appropriate to play one of my all-time favourite games while I do so
This isn't game related, but every Christmas Eve, in anticipation for the best day ever, I watch the first Pirates Of The Caribbean, always

Hmm, interesting thread. My friends and I would get together to try out the new Mario Party and Skrek Party as well as fighting games (until Mario Party got to simplified so it wasn't interesting or challenging anymore in the sequels). And we would invite friends over (and they us) when a game everyone was interested in came out so we could all see how well it measured up to expectations.

They were generally good times. I guess things have downgraded some as instead of it being an event in and of itself, we check out new video games when we normally gather. But it is still basically the same idea. Thanks for coming up with a new thread idea.

I play WoW for roughly four months, and then I take around twelve months off. I usually end up coming back a few months after an expansion (two months after Burning Crusade came out I got the expansion, and then five months after Wrath I got that).

I also uninstall my entire Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War collection after two months of having it installed, and then ten months later I'll reinstall it. I don't know why, maybe it's to give me the fresh start on the Dark Crusade campaign (which I love), yet sadly I don't own Soulstorm... I should buy that some day.
