So I've read about catherine, it seems pretty different in plot and execution, but other than that, what is the reason for all the waves its creating? Have I missed something about it? I saw that critical miss thing about it, do you have a heavy rain-esque sex scene in it, or was that a joke I didn't get?

It's taking on issues that gaming has largely ignored.
People will be mixed on the gameplay, and that's completely understandable. I liked the arcade-y puzzle gameplay in the demo, but I'm really interested in the story.

I think it's mostly the adult themes that have people interested. Atlus in general handles "real world" interpersonal issues pretty well in their games, so a game that's entirely based on that of their making should be something unique to enjoy.

I admit, before last night i have never even heard of that game. After watching few videos the puzzle/platforming part seemed dull, since im not huge fan of those, but the plot and all that seemed veryvery interesting making me concider buying it in the distant future.

It's because it's an Atlus game and thier games are generally fresh/interesting/different.

It's made by Atlus. That's pretty much all you need to know.
The game's not for me, the gameplay is in no way comparable to the greatness of the persona series.

I'm tempted to say, "Because nerdy male gamers will go nuts for anything involving, and indeed focussing on, a unashamedly over-sexualised anime-style girl. Although naturally some of them will attempt to cover this by citing other attractions like "themes" or "depth" or some such."

However, while I am utterly certain that is a factor, it would be simplistic and unfair to leave it at that.

For one, it's made by a bunch called Atlus, who have managed to attract a loyal following, the size of which is unknown to me. I haven't played any of their games, but I've heard interesting things.

For two, it does seem to be making an effort to include the sort of themes rarely, if ever, addressed by video games. I mean, a game about relationships and issues with commitment? That's not something you hear of every day.

For three, some of the rather bizarre imagery has probably attracted some notice. Mostly naked guy clutching a pillow and talking to bipedal sheep? Once again, not something you see often.

Personally, I have little interest in it. The aforementioned themes caught my attention, but what I've seen of the gameplay looks boring and utterly unrelated.
