Basically just as the title says. Have you ever made a mod for a game before, be it a skin, model, gameplay tweak, or etc? And if not, do you have an ideas that you would think would make some good mods?

I was just wondering if any here on the Escapist has some game design talent bubbling around in their heads.

For me, being reminded by the Jedi Academy thread that popped up a bit ago, I remembered when I tried my hand at some modding for that game(mostly skins though)
I actually finished this one and released it. Made it using one of the male base models, reskined it, made 2 special skins and 2 team variants, also worked in story...i think.

Never got to finish her, she was turning out great too...ended up being too busy with school.
Again, another unfinished one. First attempt at modelling..got a bit frustated at it..but did end up making a low poly torso.

There's an AWESOME indie game called Cortex Command (which I'm playing right now), and it seems as though it was specifically designed to be incredibly easy to mod, and there's a very active modding community. Although I don't really have the skills to make a full mod, I've tweaked the game in various ways extensively, so much so that my copy of the game is completely unlike any other in existence. Actually, that's probably the case with everyone's version of it.

I made a mod based on Boondock Saints for Oblivion, half finished a mod allowing you to rent out the houses you didn't live in (finished code for everything, just only applied to half of the cities). Never finished of my stuff for Morrowind, but started a few.

I did some scripting for Just Cause 2, (Made a semi-truck thing have an absurd ammount of health and top speed) but that's about it.

I'm actually doing a sort of perosnal summer project. I'm trying to figure how to make advanced skins (not the stupid recolors, different animations, looks, designs, sounds, etc.)

I'm still in the learning process, and have a whole summer to work on it, but it's hard...

If anyone's wondering: I'm working (alone, and don't want any help) on a skin to make the TF2's Sniper look like a hunting rifle.

I did a few bits for Operation Flashpoint. but my all time fave was the Halconnen Cannon from Hellsing I did for Max Payne 2 (spellings prob wrong) I just modeled an obscenely large cannon with a grenade effect and had a laugh. I never released it but I had loads of fun. Not serious modding but changing the faces of certain soldiers in operation flashpoint to my mates faces for multi-player was quite cool.

I've made a lot of custom maps for Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, and I've done minor mods for Pokemon Red - basically just changing a little bit of text to insert references to Missingno. I haven't made mods for any modern games, except for some really shitty Battlefield 1942 attempts.

I've done all those for Black Hawk Down. But as for a full mod? No. I did help a little (very little) with the NSO mod they made for it though.

I'm in the middle of texture hacking and eventual level hacking for Mario 64, that's all I'm gonna say for now.

I made a clown suit for the G-man in the original Half-Life. I haven't been really interested in modding though. It'd rather make my own games.

Civ IV I had severely modded gameplay tweaks. I was going to release it but another user in the community released a PIG mod and it was so similar, I figured there was little point. I may end up releasing it when I get a new religion model worked in but Civ V will be out by then so we'll see.

I've only messed around with Valve's Hammer. I've made levels that are playable, but theyre only a room with a few walls and enemies. It's really fun to do, but to actually make a mod or even a good map would take a ton of work and skill that I don't have yet.

Reading some of the posts makes me rather envious. No, I've never really modded, just made a few "fun" maps for Warcraft3, and dabbled with a level editor for Freelancer at one point. Nothing that a freshly lobotomized chimp couldn't have done better, obviously...

I've only modded Fallout 3 and Oblivion.

Well, the mods are only minor gameplay tweaks or they add horribly overpowered stuff, but they're mods so it counts.
