Have you ever played a game that made you cry?

I like to classify it as being stoically solemn while tears roll down my cheeks, I associate crying with scrunching your face in an unflattering manner, tears endlessly streaming, you being unable to form coherent sentences.

But yeah I remain stoically solemn while tears roll down my cheeks all the time, I'm a real stoically solemn while tears roll down my cheeks-baby, so I'm not even gonna bother recounting all the myriad times I have become stoically solemn while tears roll down my cheek like a little action star.

Needless to say it happens quite often.

Honestly? Yes. As a teenager I was a stone cold emotionless dick that wouldn't even cry at the ending of Titanic, but as I've gotten older I've also gotten considerably more sappy, go figure.

The only game that immediately comes to mind as having left me a soppy mess was Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. Otherwise there's Walking Dead season 1...
I knew other people would mention the Walking Dead, but I?m SO glad to see Dreamfall mentioned in the very first response. My first time playing that I was probably 14? The ending of that game left me in the fetal position crying and wondering ?What?s going to happen now?? Hell, over 10 years later I still remember how it ends and all of Zoe?s friends and acquaintances that? Urgh?

Maybe it hurt me so bad because I was a kid, but man... You weren?t the only one that was in pieces after Dreamfall.

I didn't CRY, but I had a tear in my eye during endings of Final Fantasy X and Telltales Walking Dead season 1.

I shed a few tears during The Walking Dead Season 1 Ending I think it was the 'I'll miss you too' option that did it and To The Moon during the song 'Everything's Alright'.

Got a lump in my throat during The Last of Us intro, Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons ending, and the ending of Journey only because the music and visuals we just so purty.

Nothing gets the tears welling quite like marathoning the Mass Effect Trilogy with Tali as love interest (I even eschewed romance entirely in the first game for her) and then getting the worst ending on Rannoch. I've never turned a game off and redone things in Mass Effect, but I couldn't take that.

For me it has only happened with two games Metal Gear Solid 3 and Persona 4. For MGS3 it was the a specific point in the ending that got me, as for persona it was a event that happens very late in the game.

I'll try to explain what got me was because of strong tonal shifts in the games involving characters that I was fairly attached to emotionally, I don't expect this kind of a reaction from all gamers in fact many of my friends though it was funny that the two games listed got me but I laughed at them cause latter that year the Walking Dead got them for the same reason.

Walking Dead Season 1 here too, I'm pretty emotionless when it comes to well everything, I rarely ever show any kind of emotion that isn't indifference or anger but TWD S1 made me feel like it was all my fault, I know it was written and that my choices don't actually have much impact but it really felt like it was my fault and leaving Clementine like that, making her do that it just finally got me and it was great, it made me feel human again, it was real nice.

Season 2 didn't really make me cry at all though, but I still liked it because I can relate a lot to how Clementine is in that game, seriously she's eerily similar to how I was at that age.

Aside from tears of laughter I can't even remember outright crying at anything in games, movies, or TV, but I do get misty eyed every once in a while. Mordin in ME3, Sachi's route and Michiru's bad end in Grisaia no Kajitsu, and Aeka's route in Yume Miru Kusuri all made my eyes a bit watery.

I cried during the ending of Okami, not once but twice.
I'm not what that saids about me...
Its ok, you are not alone. In my case, they were tears of joy, though... That game has the more uplifting last 30 minutes I have ever seen.

OT: Final Fantasy X:
- When the protagonists first kiss.
- The ending.

So much overlap with me! Ha! Maybe I'm just a very emotional person but gosh, I forgot about most of those! To the Moon = Opening a faucet in my eyes.

Your testosterone levels are too high. You're simply too masculine for crying. I bet all the women ovulate when you walk into the room. Congrats.

The ending to Deadly premonition made me cry my eyes out the first time I played it, and to this day it still makes me a little emotional, which is one of the reasons why I count it among one of my most favourite games of all time, I have to play through it at least once every couple of months.

-The epilogues to MGS 3 and 4. "This is good isn't it?"
-The ending of ICO. Seeing the castle that you've been exploring the entire game crumble apart while the main theme plays in the background is extremely melancholic. The fact that Yorda decides to stay behind when she sends you off just hits home even harder. She appears later on at the beach, but it's strongly implied by the game and even the creator himself that this is all a dream, and that both characters are dead and in purgatory. Sotc is also really powerful, but it's more shocking than downright sad (although that bit where you hopelessly crawl towards her did come close to making me tear up)
-Nanako's death in Persona 4. Some people complain that it was a cop out because she comes back to life, but the fact that she stays dead if you make the wrong decisions and also the fact that Agro is included in many saddest death scenes list despite him turning out to be alive as well indicates to me that there's no reason that this should be an exception. To give context to how you would feel in a similiar game, imagine doing your best to take care of Clementine and make her happy, and then see her die right in front of your eyes while at the same time be completely helpless to do anything at all.
-Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Never mind that you couldn't save your brother no matter what you did-it's the fact that he dies off screen that makes it all the more brutal.
-The ending scene between Aegis and MC in Persona 3. The beauty of it is that it never outright states what's about to happen, but it's quite clear from the the music, tone and dialogue of Aegis' voice that this is the end for the player character you spent the last 80 hours with.

Emotional wreck: To The Moon. Seriously my eyes where red raw from that one. One note of the soundtrack is enough to get me going again. Damn you Freebird Games.
Yep. This one.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons comes pretty close too, but To The Moon had me openly bawling.

The ending.

Killing Isabeau in the Chaos and Law routes. Or rather, not...

[spoiler- Breath of Fire 3]
Teepo's final words in every route.
[/spoiler]

I suppose there's a connection there. Wonder what it could be.
