This is more likely on non-moderated sites such as youtube comments. I received one in which someone was claiming to be breaking into my house and gradually getting closer to me to kill me. He claimed he was messaging me from his iphone or whatever device. I found it a bit amusing.

I was subscribed to a youtuber who frequently made videos about random topics. The topics were in no way offensive or inflammatory. Yet, he still received death threats. He kept a tally on a chalk board of how many he got as he found it rather amusing.

What about you?

Yes.

Although I honestly cannot remember why, or if they were from an actual human or from a bot.

Nothing really serious, just the standard "Watch your back cause I'm gonna fuck you up! I can trace your IP address and pinpoint your location!" I always can't contain myself and burst out laughing

Well except for the time I played this guy named Candlejack, he was really-

Numerous times, usually through the medium of online gaming. I don't really take them too seriously but it is just one of the reasons I keep my online identity separate from my real one at all times.

Surprisingly no.

I'm quite cheeky with folk, I rarely take anyone seriously, I constantly mock people and I can be quite rude.

Yet not once have I ever been threatened.

I feel like i'm missing out.

Hey friend, I'm intending to end your life at an unspecified date. I'm just giving you prior warning.

(Was that good enough?)
It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Thankyou.

Well I usually get them when I think I'm having an intelligent debate on youtube (HAHAHA :B) and then I end up making all the other commentators turn on them as I usually destroy their silly logic. And when its done to me, I just get sad and go cry in a corner :(

I've received several pretty angry threats over the last couple of years on YouTube due to my "Pikachu Dies" video, you'll be amazed how fanatical some Pokemon fans are (and I say that as a Pokemon fan myself). One include a threat to "rape your mom and your cat", sadly the account has since been banned and so the comment has vanished off my channel, though I think I posted it here once :p

I'm a former EVE player so I've actually had quite a lot of death, or at least violent, threats. Mostly from angry PvE'ers after killing their shiny ships because they can't be bothered learning about aggression mechanics. Nobody has even tried to act on the threats though, even in the few cases where I gave them my address.

From my experience they mostly seem just to be baseless in a fit of rage, a sort of "Wow, this guy spent more time than I have learning how to play this game so he must be a scrawny, weak loser who lives with his mother so I could easily beat him in a real fight where it matters" sort of mentality. Just something to reassure theirselves that they're better than I am, to ease the anger from losing. Just speculation, of course, but it seems to make sense.

Nope. Did have some idiot try to say how he'd beat me up if I told him what I did online to his face, but he's usually full of it.

Also had someone say they hope I got killed over a petty argument.
I was going to say yes, but actually, Mortai had the same experience as me - I have received threats for being beaten or maimed but not death threats. Also some death wished on me as in "I hope you die!" possibly with more explicit description but not anybody claiming they would end my life.

None of these have happened yet but I have my hopes up. There were several threats for body harm for which the person didn't know where I was. And they admitted it, so I can only assume they have access to a crystal ball or something. I really want to meet them and learn to divine the locations of random people whenever I wished.

The closest I have, though, is that guy who disagreed with me in a YouTube comment and so I murdered him. Does that count?

Me too!

I only ever get the sucky real life kind... for instance, a few years ago, some chavvy guy in the year below me was showing off to his chavvy girlfriend, and got spooked by my labradors, who after saying hello, disappeared into the undergrowth. He then proceeded to shout that he was going to slit my throat and dump my body in the river, while remaining firmly 30 feet away from me.

John Mayer fanboy who probably has an anus for a brain.

Everyone knows his latest album sucks.

(This probably is a same answer to similar thread I answered to while back)

EDIT: The funniest thing is that after the whole thing died, he decided to try again a month later. He really couldn't get over the fact that John Mayer's latest album sucks.

Only on yahoo answers. And that place is so trolled it hardly counts.

Here i will post the most absurd one at rick of it getting deleted. "You are a flaming dead homosexueal you are not a christian you obviously hate Jesus. You will die i will like you i will burn you up then shoot you in the face you evil homosexueal i hope you die of AIDS before i kill you you homosexueal i hope you are dead. You are a insult to Jesus, but you know. You are evil suck Lion penis go die, it will be funny you are in hell ha ha ha ha!"

I mean seriously? He can not even spell homosexual! WTF? And "suck lion penis"? what? I have got many death threats from there. If you want some keep posting "feel free to email me on this subject" and just go to religion an spirituality or any politics and post something that is not absurd.

Sure - I've played Call of Duty online. What I should say, is that I have never received a death threat that had any significant weight behind it. They've all been just silly angry rants.

Had quite a few, some were on Gamefaqs over needing help in taking down something on Monster Hunter.

Another time I lost to someone in SF4 and the response wasn't pleasent.

Well I had someone threaten to come kidnap, rape, and kill me if I didn't meet him and have sex "voluntarily". This was back when real name use on msn wasn't uncommon and I was young and stupid, so he actually was able to figure out where I lived and email me the details of that and what he was going to do to me.

I wasn't stupid, I told him I wanted to speak on the phone. I taped the call where he repeated the threat when I "seemed to be trying to back out of meeting". He got 2 years less a day.
Seriously?! Oh, man!

That's more scary than my stalker (a real one, one I changed my name and moved across country to avoid).

And only 2 years? People like that should really be watched for longer than that...

Hmm, not recently, but when I do I usually just dismiss it as typical male posturing, they're trying to prove that they are the Alpha Male of the internet and any threat to that status must be threatened into submission. Granted I'm sure not everyone who threatens death is male, but the reasoning still holds for women as well.

I can actually only recall one threat that I've ever received from hte internet that I actually took seriously enough to bother responding to, He had egged me on for a while, pursuing me into private messages and even tracking my username to other games to harrass me there. I finally got so fed up with his crap that I sent him and email that simply stated this:

" This is where I live, so you can stop posturing and come prove yourself, but before you do, I want you to take a good long look at these two photographs, and seriously consider the implications of them."

The two photos were of my Winchester 410 single barrel shotgun, and a sillhouette target that I had shot right through the center. I closed with the following.

"I am not a violent person and I do not revel in this threat, but you are not welcome on my property, I will do only what is necessary to protect myself and my family from harm. If you are smart, you will stop harrassing me and go away."

I never heard from him again, so I honestly can't say if this was the reaction he had been trying to goad me into, or if I'd actually scared him.
