Have you ever sat down and thought 'Yep, this franchise is dead'?

Banjo Kazooie when they made that damn vehicle game. Also, the thought crossed my mind on my second playthrough of Dragon Age 2.

I've been on the fence for Pokemon since Ruby/Sapphire (though that was also just a period that I started to shy away from "childish" things). For every major step forward they make in one area, they make a giant leap back in another, gameplay-wise. The interface in Diamond/Pearl was phenomenal, but in Black/White it's complete crap. Etc etc. It's like they're purposely making bad choices to make the game NOT incredible, for some insane reason.

Oh, and Call of Duty, which has been dead since MW2 for me. Need For Speed has been dead since Most Wanted, too.

Yes, about most of Nintendo's big name franchises. And apparently enough people think differently that the big N still keeps them alive.

Seriously, Nintendo? Is the idea of a new big-time IP so scary?

Prince of Persia the Sands of Time, the firs trilogy was great. But the CG game was mediocre, and the Forgotten Sands was just a lame rehash of the first Sands of Time game.

Spyro the Dragon.
Spyro has down-syndrome nowadays? Never knew... would have liked it to stay that way too...

Playing Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 killed the series for me. Don't know why but whole 3d maps didn't work out for me, couldn't care for the factions either. Loved the series before, now it's just: meh.

Oh yeah, and Force Unleashed II. Whole game felt like a trip to the groceries really. Walk around the block once, say hi to the shopclerk and walk the same stroll back.
I saw a little bit of promise when I played the first one, second one killed it.

Metal Gear:

Seriously Who is actually going to buy rising? why does it exist? It is I think the most pointless release since HALO Wars. The series was rounded of so well with so much care and detail with MGS4 (for the most part)...

Just let it die gracefully

It usually occurs to me whilst standing up.

All the same, I usually drop franchises before they get around to dying in my hands. I don't wait for me to disappoint me. Generally I stop both playing and paying attention to them after the first or second sequel, if that.

I realised Warcraft was dead after Cataclysm.
I realised GTA was dead after it went realistic in its artstyle (GTA4).

Yeah, this are the only two franchises which I see as dead for me (Of course out of those I actually played).
I think warcraft as a franchise is most likely dead but I still hold out some hope for a return to the RTS roots one day... The problem is they destroyed or seem to be wrapping up most of the current major character storylines in wow so I don't know how they could do it. I would love for them to do a Warcraft 4 that disregards the events of the mmo and gives characters like Illidan a more fitting ending but I somehow I don't think it will happen.

I agree with GTA 4. I feel that it sacrificed much of the humour and quirkiness that made the older games so much fun to play in exchange for fancy graphics and a 'gritty' story. I would love for GTA to return to the Vice City / San Andreas days.

I don't think that GTA 4 was neccasarily bad but after seeing all the reviews that gave it perfect or near perfect scores I felt so cheated after actually playing it myself. It wasn't anywhere close to a perfect game and lacked a lot of the 'gta spirit'.

The one glimmer of hope for me is that the second episode (ballad of gay tony) seemed to be a step back in the right direction.

Spyro the Dragon.

Spyro went from being a lovable little dragon in a game series filled with so much charm it was impossible to hate it.

Now Activision want to turn him into some stupid marketing ploy where you literally buy a game that is purposely unfinished and are then required to buy some crappy toys to unlock a whole bunch of content in the game.

Oh yeah, and now he looks like this...
This. When I look at the franchise now all I can think is "Why Spyro, Why did you have to be tortured with this shit?" I miss when Spyro was advertised with decapitated snow men and burnt sheep. Course this came after I played Year of the Dragon, this one above was just activison fucking the corpse on this one.

Last year I would have said Ratchet and Clank.. then I played the past 2 Ratchet and Clanks and they are really good! Looking forward to All 4 One now and I think what Insomniac has done with this series is a good example of how to make a franchise live on over time.
