"You really want to know why I'm being a dick right now? Joseph replied. He walked right up to him and came within two inches of Jasons face.
"You really want to know?" He continued. "This isn't the first Op into this shit hole. There was one before it, and only one person in this task force who survived. Do you know who it is? Hmm?" He puased long enough for Jason to try to get a word out, he cut him off.
"The only person to come back from that Op alive, was me, and the only reason why I'm being such a dick right now, is becuase on that Op was a kid. No older then nineteen." He continued, but tears swelled in his eyes.
"He had this additude where, as soon as we found the cure, we would all be big heros for saving the entire race, I thought the same way, until one night." He puased to inhale again, this time the tears staining his balaclava.
"That one night we were ambused, by infected, everybody but him and I made it out of that camp. But we still thought we could win. An hour later he was bit. He was bit dammit. That same day, that same hour when he began to turn. The terror in his eyes, the tears in my eyes. Do you know what I had to do?" He puased again, this time Jason had a look of shock in his eyes.
"I had to fucking shoot him, man. That kid was the only family I had left, and I shot him. Do you know what that does to a man? When you have to look your friend in the eye. See the terror in his eye and pull the trigger? Huh, do you?" He finished, his balaclava soaking up the stream of tears pouring from his eyes.
"GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!" Joseph finally said, He took off his reinforced helmet and through it at a window. Breaking it. He tore off his goggles and balaclava, tossed them to the side and sat down. Crying. Tears pouring from his face.
"I tried so hard man, I tried so fucking hard to forget that momment. I tried so fucking hard." He said. "Why?! Why couldn't I have died then, and not having to live through the horror of that day? Why!?" He through his M4 away and put his hands on his face and continued to sob... The group just stood there, watching what seemed like a hardass break down and cry.
